Sorry you had to miss it- hope you get there later in the year.

Hop-on-hop -off bus ideal for sightseeing. Seem to think if you buy online you get tickets a tad cheaper.

If you want to see the sea the DART (Dublin area rapid transport) goes all the way from Howth head to Wicklow- all along the coast in fact.

I would second visiting Kilmainham Gaol- thought provoking.

    Dublin castle interesting

oh and I forgot.. Trinity College & the Book of Kells

National Museum has all the beautiful Celtic gold artefacts found in the bogs. Still haven't seen them as last time I was there was a Monday- museum closed that day!!

I like the poem about the statue of Justice that faces one of the entrances to Dublin castle
"There stands Justice at her station, face to the castle, ârse to the nation!"

And seconded about the gold at national museum of Ireland and the Viking boat is there too.

Definitely visit the Guinness factory, you have the opportunity to learn to pull a pint of Guinness , then you can drink it upstairs in the Gravity bar which overlooks Dublin.

Jameson's Distillery is also worth a visit. You get a tour & a free whiskey at the bar.they also sell the best Irish Coffee!

Trinity College is also worth a visit where they have the book of Kells.

Grafton Street & o Connell street are very good for shopping.

Get tickets for hop on hop off bus, very cheap & stops at all the main attractions.

Temple Bar is worth a visit but is very touristy & the drinks are expensive.

Porterhouse is a brilliant bar/ restaurant. They have a website with menu.

One of the Temple Bar pubs was a brewpub and did a taster tray of 6 ⅓ pint glasses of their beers last time I was there.

That would be The Porterhouse. An excellent pub with a very reasonable Italian restaurant opposite.

That's the badger, I stopped being a vegetarian and became a pescetarian because of their Oyster stout.

Kilmainham Gaol is a must-see. Very sobering though.

+1 for the hop-on, hop-off tour bus, very handy for getting round. Very witty and informative drivers too :-)

Who operated the hop-on hop-off tour buses or do you have a link to their website?

We enjoyed the open top bus tour, Kilmainham Gaol and Cafe En Seine. Temple Bar was interesting but far too many Stag/Hen parties for my liking. And cobbled streets no good if you wear heels !

+ 1 for Kilmainham Gaol and the hop-on-hop-off bus. You can catch it from O'Connell Street and there are at least 2 companies who run them.

I can't remember the name of the place we went for breakfast, but it was on the corner of O'Connell Street right by the big spike, on the opposite side to the Old Post Office. I only had a drink but the food looked reasonable. We also went to a restaurant further up O'Connell Street for breakfast which was decent. Again, though, I can't remember the name! It was further away from the river than the spike, on the same side as the Post Office but before you reach the 3d cinema, if memory serves.

We went to the Parnell pub on Parnell Street (http://theparnell.com/) which was great and had cheap cocktails!

Been a few years since I've been but have been there a lot. Cafe en Seine is fun as has been suggested. Book of Kells definitely worth a visit. James Toner is a cracking pub. O'Donoghue's on Merrion Row has live trad music every night I think. Lots of people say it is very touristy but I've had some great nights there.

I've been on the Dublin Literary Pub Crawl twice and it was excellent both times. I read a lot but Irish fiction has never attracted me. It's just a great fun night.

At least you've got more time to plan your trip!
