Sky plan adjustment (Ent Extra/HD)

So I'm one of these people who has a Sky subscription costing £37.25: The older arrangement of being put on Entertainment Extra, with the HD Pack.

I know that having the new Entertainment Extra+ will be £32 for basically the same. (I don't need F1HD).

If I just ring up to change, I assume they'll just stick me on a 12month contract for the new arrangement... but there should be more to gain here. What's possible/allowed/realistic? I'm not currently in contract.

1. If I were to be a new customer, I would get £10 off for 6 months, and a new box. Can I reasonably seemlessly do this? i.e. cancel then get the new account a few days before cancel date? Am I allowed to carry on using the old box with the new viewing card to keep my recordings? (And sell the brand new box).

2. Can I cancel just the HD pack over the phone, and then do an online upgrade from Entertainment Extra to Entertainment Extra+ via topcashback, which says £50.50 cashback? Guess I'd do that just before the HD pack cancels. Favouring this option if it would work, as less hassle for only a bit less gain!

Thanks for your input guys!
Greg

Call up retentions and ask for a 75% discount, settle at 50% if you can get it, and whatever else you want ask.

    Of course not!
To be deemed a "new customer", you'll have to cancel for 12 months or more!

Alternative is to look for a retention deal, the best of which are only offered if you are actually prepared to cancel.

Again, no, you'd need to be signing up for it as an entirely new customer to qualify for that deal.

Nothing in the T&C states you cannot cancel and reorder, would guess you will need to wait until after the cancellation not just before though.
The reviews on Topcash back are not that great re speed of payment and tracking of orders.

Where does the 12 months come from? So hypothetically if I were to cancel, I wouldn't be able to resubscribe for 12 months? Makes sense that I'd have to wait until after I'd cancelled though. Presumably my new viewing card would go in my old box though right?

The Topcashback deal is specifically for Existing customers. But I am getting the point that they might not be very good at paying up!

The twelve month period is determined by Sky.

Sky don't want people cancelling and then soon after re-subscribing in order to get new equipment and deals.

Of course you'd be able to re-subscribe earlier than twelve months! You just would not be regarded as a "new" customer by Sky. As a "returning" customer, you would not therefore be entitled to new customer deals.

Earlier than twelve months, Sky would just re-enable your services without you being entitled to any new equipment or card.

I'm not certain about this, since I'm not familiar with the deal.
  • I switched from the full hd to entertainment Extra plus last September and am currently paying £29.50 due to my mix alignment and no im not in a new 12 month contract. :)
