That's not an option open to everyone though - I'd wait a long time waiting for Mr Green-Flag man to show up to some of the places I travel to. ;)

If your lifestyle is driving to work through civilisation and your leisure time involves you being near conurbations then gunk/foam/sealant/slime is fine.

If you are retired then losing some leisure time to a shredded wheel may not impact upon you as you have the time to get a tyre replaced and go back to re-visiting your destination.

I place serious value on my leisure time. I remember taking the kids out to the seaside after nearly half a year of working 7 days a week. We got a puncture, I pulled into a petrol station, changed the tyre and 15 minutes later we were on our way.

Another time I got a puncture on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula. I limped 3 hours back to Fort William to buy a new tyre. Without the spacesaver spare the whole holiday could have been stuffed.

Nissan do supply a spare wheel and tyre if you pick the option to purchase one.

Trouble is most salesmen are so bothered about loosing a sale( because of the extra cost) that they don't ask you if you want one.

Rather than purchase one off the manufacturer I have, in the recent past , purchased a steel rim for both my son and daughter.

One particular one was for a Ford, who wanted £110 for the rim alone.

I found a firm in poland called Oponeo who supplied me a brand new steel rim for £33 and that included free DPD 2 day delivery.

I actually found another firm in Germany who could supply one for £28 but Oponeo had such good reviews I went with them.

I then purchased a budget tyre locally for £33 and a 2 ton jack off Amazon for £14.

I personally would rather have a proper spare even if it does take up space in the boot.
