Closing/reducing or what next

Options
Hi everyone
Bit of advice needed please. The goal is mortgage app in 18 months, but relates to credit cards. I have a vanquis card, was 3000 limit with 49.9 % APR opened in early 2010, a cap one poor credit 34.9% APR opened in November 13 for there BT offer, both cards now have zero balance. My through an offer via internet banking my bank gave me a prime card with 8.6k limit, 15 months BT and purchases, I think this card is all I will ever need credit wise.
Did plenty of searching about closing cards, nothing definitive found out though. My CR has the following default expires April 14, CCJ & default, same debt expires Jan & Feb 2015 and a default expiring 2017, although I am disputing the date with the ICO. I'm thinking about closing the cap one card? I have reduced the limit on the vanquis to 500 instead of closing it, because it is a 3 years old account with perfect history, wise move? I'm currently saving like my with my bank, because I think they may be prepared to offer me a mortgage, sorry for the long post but any advice would be welcome.
Regards
