Xbox purchase - advice

I wonder if you can all help.
My son would rather like an Xbox for his birthday, he is going to be 10
We normally pay for big parties for him, but this year he would like something rather reasonably priced, so the price we would normally spend on the party, and his usual amount for his present should hopefully cover it.
I wonder if you can advise on the actual product:
What Xbox version would you recommend?
What accessories are necessary, or on an ideal wish list?
What games would you suggest are good for a 10 year old, he likes playing with his castle, making lego and playing Minecraft and Clash of the Clans on his ipod.
His grandparents are likely to want to give him a present in the region of £50/£60 is there an accessory that they may be able to purchased
We have an extra sitting room so planning on putting a tv in there and making it a games room, so will be keeping it out of his bedroom.
Any further advice would be appreciated.
Many thanks

It depends on how much you want to pay as to whether (in my opinion) you look at the xbox 360 or xbox one.
My children have both ( they put all of their christmas money together to buy the Xbox one, I'm not rich, or stupid:eek:)
I don't play on them, but they appear to prefer the xbox one, but they were more than happy with the 360 until they upgraded.
I've got a ten year old who loves playing Minecraft on it, as well as the lego games you can get. If he's going to play with friends I would suggest getting another controller. Kinects is good fun too, you can buy this as a package or separate, if the Grandparents want to pay out maybe ask them to get Kinects ( if you're getting the 360).

Personally I'd go for a 360. Since the x box one came out there are some great deals on 360 consoles and extras. There's no backwards compatibility between them, so for the xbox one he'd need new games (£50ish each). There are loads of second hand 360 games for a few quid each - much more pocket money friendly.0

I would start by trying to work out what kind of games he might enjoy most and see if they run best on xbox 360, xbox one, and whether they need kinect to run. A trip to a game store might help with this as the staff will usually have a good idea of what games are available, what's popular and which system they run on. Whichever you get, I would recommend getting at least one extra controller so he can have friends over to play, and paying for as much memory as you can.If you lend someone £20 and never see them again, it was probably £20 well spent...0

You may get a better answer on the Gaming moneysavingexpert board?
I think the new Lego Marvels game may be on the Xbox.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Thanks all they all have Xbox and assuming most currently have the old model. But they have also had every single device that seems to come out. Many of his friends by the age of 10 have already had ds , wii, iPod, Xbox, iPad and some now have iphones, so I think it likely they will have an upgrade soon as they have so many technology upgrades.
Just trying to keep up with it all to know what best to get. I gather Xbox links up with friends does the 360 link up with the one? We have a wii from ten years ago which seems to be satisfying my daughter but my sons friends won't show any interest in it any more0 -
Not sure what kinects do but are they available on both machines?0

No the 360 does not link with the One but as mentioned you can buy an xbox 360 and some games for sub £100 whereas the One is £400+ just for the console, then £45 a controller, £40-50 a game etc
I have both and whilst the One is a better console the game support isn't there and I play the 360 still as much as the One.
If you allow your kid to play online I would advise that you make it so he can only talk to friends/family and not the general public as the language is quite vulgar at times0 -
Yes, comes as standard with the One but as an extra normally with the 360. IMO its not needed.Counting_Pennies wrote: »Not sure what kinects do but are they available on both machines?0 -
If you get the 360 I would definitely go for the 250gb version rather than the 4gb version. The 4gb has nowhere near enough memory for most of the games.:A
