It depends on what you want in terms of the phone, airtime and flexibility. Is it a good idea
to avoid contracts like the plague
Again, this depends and reputable & 'less costly' are contradicting demands. For iPhones it's Apple stores/online.if so where is the best least costly reputable place to buy mobile phones outright0 -
CPW and P4U will be the best place to buy PAYG phonesWhat happens if you push this button?0

It very much depends on your requirements. Price up your options and see which is the most cost effective option.0

I usually buy from a major retailer and for me that's been Tesco or Argos on PAYG but there are several others as mentioned above in other posts.
Most of these retailers usually have stocks of unlocked phones and it's a good idea to buy one of those in case your first choice of network doesn't suit you for some reason.
You can buy cheaper on the internet of course but I find it useful to be able to have a look at a phone first before I buy, which means that Argos is usually not my first choice but they do have a fairly good stock of unlocked phones if you know what you want beforehand.0
