Just do it on a fixed price like Miss Price!

  • From which I take it that it should have taken them rather fewer days than that?:rotfl:

Would 5 man days sound about accurate as to how long they would have taken if they had worked full days?

I AM concerned with the job not taking any longer than it should, hence my question.

I intend to hire a firm that will use everything possible to do a job in reasonable time, ie mini-digger, electric concrete mixer and the man/men working full workdays.

So, put like that, what should it take 2 men doing full workdays and building a wall 6' high and 50' long for instance?

Is that how long the wall is 50' or are we still guessing?
  • I am asking for a timescale of a brick wall 6' high and 50' long.

I think that is quite clear.

Depends what their skill set is. I've seen a brickie (foundations already laid, he had someone mixing mortar and someone else fetching blocks and bricks to him) build two semi detached houses in two days.

To build you wall I would say 5 days is more than reasonable, with a general builder I would even say 3/4 days

Get a fixed price and then you can be sure that they will do it in as short a time as possible.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
  • The plan is to get a fixed price job.

Until I moved to this area I didn't even know there was any other way to do things and I shall refuse to have the working on an estimate and/or hourly rate job some workmen seem to do round here for a job.

I've had to do a lot of emails putting words "written quotation" in at every opportunity as a way to deal with the darn word "estimate" that keeps turning up when quoted for jobs here:cool:
