How long does it take a firm to build a garden wall?

1. If it's a concrete block wall.
2. If it's a brick wall.
Either way, the wall concerned will be 6' high and will therefore need foundations, etc, as required.
So, I am assuming that if a 10' wall takes x number of days, then I basically get out my calculator and multiply how long a 10' wall would take by the length my wall will be and should get the number of days approximately it will take to do the job.

How many bodies will be doing the work?
2 fella's did my 40ft long x 4 1/2 ft tall brick wall including digging foundations by hand and one electric mixer in iirc 8 days.63 mortgage payments to go.

Thanks for that.
I don't know how many men a firm would have working on it at a time. I presume they would be using an electric mixer (thanks for that comment, as I will check on that point).
Out of that time, I presume you mean 8 workdays in total (ie Monday - Friday) and just did a quick multiplication upwards to the number of square feet my wall will be instead to give myself some idea.
Then I wondered...how long did it take them to dig the foundations out for your wall? Reason being I am guessing that I would need to take into account what proportion of that 8 days they spent on doing that part of the job.0 -
Its a wee while ago now, but they worked weekends only so sat/sun.
They did the digging in 2 days. Would have been much quicker with a mini digger and that would have been possible as its by a road. But there were other considerations.like price. And mess and getting a mini digger on a weekend and people walking by etc.
So the other 6 weekends were wall building. One was building the wall, one was mixing.
Oh and its a double wall, ie a cavity.
And it actually has like towers that go to umm about 5ft with a coping stone on top of each tower. 5 of them.
And my terminology not great I know :rotfl:63 mortgage payments to go.

How long a wall do you actually want?
What's your soil like? Full of tree roots?
What's access like? Can they get a mini digger in and muck out?
Answer these and you'll get a better idea instead of !!!!ing in the end.0 -
They will be able to get a mini digger in if need be.
There are a few bushes to dig out and a few other "bits and bobs".
I don't know what the term "muck out" means.0 -

16 man days to build that wall? Geesus. How many hours did they work a day? 2?
On a sat they turned up about 10am wish, went about 4pm.
On a Sunday however!!!
It was a fixed price so no extra cost to me if they took a year to build it.:beer:63 mortgage payments to go.

Q: if it takes three men two days to dig a hole , how long would it take two women?
A: 0 of course!
The men have already dug it!"if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170 -

From which I take it that it should have taken them rather fewer days than that?:rotfl:
Would 5 man days sound about accurate as to how long they would have taken if they had worked full days?
I AM concerned with the job not taking any longer than it should, hence my question.
I intend to hire a firm that will use everything possible to do a job in reasonable time, ie mini-digger, electric concrete mixer and the man/men working full workdays.
So, put like that, what should it take 2 men doing full workdays and building a wall 6' high and 50' long for instance?0
