Rat Plague Floods-Gov Must Pay To Keep Our Kids Safe?

Increasing numbers of dead rats in flood areas are being reported and victims being warned thats rats will be flooded out of sewers and burrows and to call in Pest Control Experts after checking for suggested signs rats may be seeking to enter their homes through garages and pipes as they seeek drier 'harbourages.' They can apparently bring leptospirosis (v dangerous to little ones) in their urine which is mixed in with the flood water in homes. Also, typhoid -like diseases must be watched for and be very careful about letting our children play in playgrounds at the moment even if seems waters are going down - they could be infectious for months!

My worry is the probable cost of Pest Control firms - how much are they and are they going to too busy and hiking their prices? If 'money is no object' now, then shouldnt gov be prepared to pay? Its not our fault they cancelled the Environment Work cos of the Drainage Cuts?

A major pest control firm warned that in flooding rats are forced to leave their flooded or damaged burrows to find new, drier harbourages to start nesting in.

such as homes, outbuildings, compost heaps or factory buildings. Apparently if you think you have rats infesting your home, they have the following advice you should act quickas they are a health issue - but what does act quickly mean? Do we go to govt for money for a survey from Pest Control, or council? or direct and pay ourselves?

We should talk to neighbours to see if they are worried too or have noticed vermin activity in the area , so maybe have a neighbourhood watch meeting or form a group, then go to council meeting?

It says we should check carefully for tell tale signs but what are they - surely we would have to shell out for a professional pest controller to advise us?
