How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

We are in the process of buying a new house on the outskirts of London. The house has 1 ensuite (5'x7'), 1 bathroom (6' x 8') and 1 cloak room (3'x3'). According to the builder, it would cost us around £3000 to half-tile these 3 rooms. this includes wall and floor tiles.
We feel this is quite steep. I checked Topps Tiles calculator and it comes to less than £1000.....but I dont think it includes labor or material cost.
So,
1. how much should I expect to pay for the material?
2. and labor ?
3. how many days would it take to finish the ensuite, bathroom and cloak room?
cheers

well what does it include then since there are only 2 components for the work - materials and labour
as for your question, costs obviously depend on your location....0 -
A lot will depend on the location - how many square meters of tiles are required (around here most tilers charge per sqm) and also the cost of the tiles you want fitting!!!!
It will cost more to have mosaics fitted than large tiles for instance....£2 Savers Club #156!
Looking for holiday ideas for 2016. Currently, Isle of Skye in March, Riga in May, Crete in June and Lake District in October. August cruise cancelled, but Baby due September 2016! :j0 -
Tiling is easy, so do it yourself and save on labour!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I'm having my bathroom tiled floor to ceiling nextweek. The room is 2.1m x 1.7m but also with a shower cubicle of 900mm x 760mm that was previously a cupboard. The tiler is costing me £500 for the lot, it works out at about 23sq m and includes adhesive and grout. Tiler is great too, has done previous work for me and family, all impressed.0

I paid about £900 for full tiling of a 1.1x4m bathroom including having the floor raised slightly to accommodate the wet-room tray.0

You can do tiling yourself , but they are 250 a day for a reasonNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0

Tiling is a doddle.
If people are charging a grand a week to tile then im in the wrong industry.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. I've just had my bathroom fully tiled, but this is somebody I've used before & who is multi-skilled. He charges £150 day for labour, which is an absolute steal for London. As you might guess, he is always fully booked & you have to go on a waiting list, often for months, to get work done.
Using somebody else in my previous house I was charged approx £50 per square metre for fitting the tiles, this didn't include the cost of the tiles or the adhesive/grout. I paid for those separately. This was about 4yrs ago now & he wasn't even a proper tiler, and a couple of cuts were pretty bad.
It is better to try to get somebody who you trust to do a good job, especially in areas where a lot of cuts are going to be necessary. Anybody can stick tiles up, but not everybody can achieve a professional looking finish when it comes to having to cut tiles to fit to anything other than a straight edge.
I don't think you can really work out how many days it will take to do the tiling, as there are too many variables. IE; size of tiles, type of tile & the amount of awkward bits & shapes that will need to be cut.
I think my recent bathroom took about 2.5 days to complete as far as the tiling goes, but can't swear to that, it could have been a bit longer. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
It's always the amateurs that say how easy tiling is.
The cost depends on a range if factors.
1) do any existing tiles need removing ?
2) if so, do the walls need making good and do they require a whole or partial skim? If the walls were plasterboard, then the plasterboard often needs replacing.
3) what size are the tiles? A smaller tile takes longer to cut fit than alar her one. Smaller tiles also take longer to grout.
4) what tiles are you actually using? Ceramic? Porcelain? Travertine? Each has its own draw backs and travertine has to be wet cut only which adds time.
5) In terms of floor tiles, Does the floor need overboard?
6) who is responsible for putting the pan etc back in after?
7) smaller rooms take longer pro rata than large rooms as you have a Disproportionate amount of cuts.
Without knowing the full specification, it's impossible for any one to say what the job is worth.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
Many thanks for all the responses.
Its a new house - so basically a clean slate to start with.
I'm thinking of getting a quote on Rated People dot com. This would give me a better idea on what to expect and how long it would take.
There is no 1 type of tile that we want to use. Each bathroom can be different, so why not try ceramic in one, porcelain in another.0
