  • Hi, I used to work in psychological therapies and my supervisor is trained in emdr.

    I had it due to experiencing flashbacks, intrusive thoughts and nightmares/detachment from my hubby after witnessing his heart attack.It is very good, very tiring.sessions vary in terms of how many u need,I had 6.

    You will be tired after the first few sessions and more emotional as it is bringing those suppressed feelings out.It does not wipe memories, but 'files' them away in the memory box at the back of your brain instead of them being in the frontal lobe and therefore very real eg.flashbacks.
    As such, when u find yourself thinking of the situation your emotional response will be less and I find I am more 'numbed'when thinking of my hubbys heart attack.

    It is also used for severe anxiety.all in all, my experience has been good in that the flashbacks have stopped and I am no longer so emotional about my experience.

  • The NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) guidelines specify EMDR as one of the recommended treatments of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and can be accessed in the NHS. This means, I hope, that there have been sufficient trials and research to support its efficacy. I hope that helps. However, I don't have personal experience of EMDR.
  • hubby had it for PTSD and other related conditions we saw a real improvement over time but he did get worse he before got better
    The only people I have to answer to are my beautiful babies aged 8 and 5
  • I had it, it didn't help & I didn't like it. But to be honest I didn't 100% trust my counsellor so didn't really relax with it
