Halifax Clarity Credit Card

Has anyone else had issues applying for this card?

I don't understand - I have an above average credit rating, a good income, steady address/job etc. Nowhere else turns me down for credit - but I have applied for this card 3 times now (spread over 18 months, every 6 months) as it it brilliant for abroad and they reject me outright straight away every time.

Anyone else had this?

I have the old Santander Zero card so it's not end of the world...i just really don't like Santander as a bank so would rather switch.

Says who? I really hate "Credit ratings". Lenders look at your file. So your existing debt, any nasties, that kind of thing. They don't look at your CRA "score".

People post on here with thousands and thousands of debt and have "excellent" scores, even ex bankrupts.

I personally don't understand it. I hear the clarity and the tesco cards can be a tough gig.

Just to give you an example on the "Credit rating" and what horse manure it is.

I have a "fair" credit rating allegedly. As applying and being instantly accepted for an 18 month tesco card, knocked me down. Now it's really getting low due to a recent application and acceptance for a phone contract. Who knows I may even be poor when the clarity check shows.

I got instantly accepted at headline rate, with a very good limit for a clarity. Just goes to show how meaningless these scores are.

Experian knock you down every time you have a search. They then knock you down again, when a recently opened account appears. Which is what happened to me.

I think banks have "target markets" personally and that effects things.

I've never banked with Halifax either. Which really does make me think they have target markets.

Oh and before anyone says. I literally only pay a few £££ for my experian report. Which I obtain once a month anyway. So I don;t pay full whack or pay any attention to my "score". Nor care :D
  • when i say "score" i really mean - i have a couple of credit cards, an account with an overdraft, mobile, etc - everything paid off in full, addresses etc steady and all 3 of the agencies say my rating is above average.

i get the banks are really targeting potential customers for profit (either now or in the future)

it just seems strange that any other application has been fine - just this 1 - was wondering if anyone had any insight on this card in particular rather than in general
  • Well I've got 3 prime cards. An account with a o/d, contracts and all that.

Never paid a penny in interest. I pay in full. Healthy bank balance. Like you. It's all for S75, oh and we used to only have one bank account and I was royally screwed one time when the payments system went down.

So since then I made sure I had a few cards, different banks, etc for protection

I don't have a steady address history either due to the husbands work.

Which makes me think even more, banks have a target audience.

That said I shut and get unused accounts settled, when the good rates expire, so I watch the available credit I have. That's something to look at.

Do you have banking products with the Lloyd's group already? Find put if there's a credit product decline on you internally is the only thing I can suggest.
