How to sell my car?

No one has answered the question. How should a buyer pay £7k in a private sale, to protect both parties from a scam? Is it possible?

100% protection for both parties in a private sale? I doubt it's possible. The buyer can reduce the risk by having a proper HPI check and making sure all the HPI conditions are met, that way HPI will indemnify them against the car being nicked, having finance on etc. Note that I mean a proper HPI check, not one of the cheaper clones. The buyer can protect themselves by making sure they are paid by bank transfer or cash and if by cash making sure they check the notes aren't counterfeit. One way I've done this, when the buyer didn't want/couldn't pay by transfer, was to meet them at my bank and pay the money in there and then.

Update - I have sold the car. I made contact through the Vauxhall website with a local garage after getting a quote for a trade in but asked them to buy it outright. They didn't offer me what I wanted but it was the middle ground between the WBAC quote and what I wanted and is safe money.

That went through today and 2 hours after handing the car over I saw it on their forecourt for £2k more expensive - the price I bought it for a year ago but with an extra 15k miles on the clock! At least everyone is happy
