OS Daily Thread Saturday 15th February
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Very dark, and the wind is howling round the house – DH got up and disturbed me as he did so, so we’re both up now drinking a cuppa – he’s watching the Olympics and I’m surfing on here. The forecast was right for today - I’m so pleased we decided not to take the caravan today – we’ve definitely made the right decision. The only positive is that the howling wind is drying everywhere up – we had very heavy rain and downpours yesterday afternoon and into the evening. Still we’re lucky that we haven’t been as badly affected as down South, poor folk are not getting any respite.

Dinner last night was chicken and bacon kievs, chips, beans and salad for the menfolk, I had mushroom omelette and salad. I did get some baking done yesterday afternoon, I made a dozen mince pies and 2 doz Twinks – so at least there’s something in the tins for the start of next week.

Got majority of the washing, drying and ironing done, so will start the week with very little in the basket – have the airer up and when we get back tomorrow will put another load in and then to dry on airer.
Did the food shopping yesterday and visited the Butchers to do a bulk buy of meat – cost quite a bit of the monthly food budget but I’m hoping that it will work out cheaper in the long term – I bagged everything up and it’s now all safely stashed in the freezer. I’m going to start batch cooking some main meals – using some for that evenings meal and putting the other in the freezer to use another night when I either can’t be bothered to cook or we’re busy/late and need something quick with little prep time.

Have a good Saturday everyone x

Keep safe and well x

• Morning all.
What a night that was. The high winds here are causing so much damage. Roof started to leak, so now I have buckets down the stairs to catch the drips. Its a flat roof so now doubt will need replacing.
Just looked out the front and the lilac tree is down completely. With had to take a walk around the site when I can see out there.
Dinner last night was sausage casserole which was lovely.
We are meant to be going off for a Valentine meal tonight as dh was working last night, so will be nice to not have to cook for once, and no washing up either.
Anyhoo better feed the animals and start the wm
Hugs to all in need

• Morning all
I'm fit to commit murder here, I got up at 6:30, made hubby a cuppa, only for him to say 'I don't have to be at work 'til 8:30, I'm sure I told you'.
AARRGH, no he didn't bloody tell me, so now I'm up & dressed & really could have done with a lie in this morning. I'm looking at the lovely flowers he bought me & hoping I can find it in my heart to forgive him!
I have a parcel to collect from the PO, I'm hoping it's DGD's birthday present that I ordered in mid January, better late than never.
I'm going to make a bowl of porridge now.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester
Chin up, Titus out.
• Good Morning all, well a wild and windy night and still very windy here in north Kent .No apparent damage at the moment that I can see and all the fences seem to be intact.:):)
I'm just going to have a big bowl of porridge to warm my cockles up and then go to get a bit of shopping, not a lot, just mainly fruit and veg I'm down to my last two potato's and three apples.I have my friend and her DD and the twins coming tomorrow moring for a visit.lots of cooing over the babies I think:):)
My friend said she realised that her DD hadn't been out hardly at all with the babies so I said well bring her down here and I'll do some lunch for us all. They only have to come from Dartford which is about 25 miles away so I'm hoping that by tomorrow the wind will have dropped a bit.My youngest DD is coming round to see the babies as well which she will enjoy having had five of her own she said it will be nice to cuddle a baby again. Her youngest is 9 now :):) She won't get too broody though as finances mean there is no way she could have any more
So I shall be doing some baking later today .I think I'll do a quiche and some salad for lunch tomorrow as my friends DD is trying to lose her 'baby weight' .
Right onwards and upwards chums I hope everyone survived the storms last night and you're all safe and warm and dry
take care everybody we're all much needed here

• Good morning all,
The rain has stopped for now but it is still very windy.
DD slept round her friends last night so i have got to pick her up later. Other DD has got work for a couple of hours this morning and then back to work tonight.
I have a pile of ironing to do and everywhere needs a quick hoover through.
LWW, hope your roof gets sorted soon and hope you don't get anymore damage.
Homemade pizza with salad for tea tonight.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

Morning :hello:

Miss tru's boyfriend sent her a rose with little hearts on sticks (I'm sure they're called something better than that, lol) in a box full of rose petals, glitter and heart-shaped confetti :D I got a big bar of dairy milk and Riddick on DVD :D We went to Morrisons, they gave every customer a red rose :D

I had lots of baby cuddles yesterday, he's just so perfect :happyhear

Countrywide is on the river here, the water had come over a bit and was across the entrance but was OK to drive through. The other side of the river was a different story, the fields are all flooded. A few people had to be rescued from their houses by boat last night.

The wind and rain last night was wild, I was sure there would be lots of damage this morning but all that's happened here is a few branches of our willow tree have bent and are hanging to the floor in next door's garden, and the bird tables were blown over. We sorted out the chicken run again yesterday, this morning it's a marshy mess again. I give up :D It's still very windy but the rain has stopped and I can see blue sky.

I want to get a few things sorted in the garden but there's really not much point at the moment. I'll wait til the weather has calmed down, anyone know when that will be? :D I'll just potter about the house today.

• Hi all
I'm just back from the PO and have collected 2 parcels & DGD's dress was one of them. The other was a bag of yarn oddments, mainly baby wool, I'm going to have the best dressed grandchildren if I manage to knit it all.
There has been some damage overnight, branches down, damaged signs & the local petrol station is closed due to damage. All we've suffered is some torn plastic sheeting so nothing important. We seem to have gained some recycling boxes, I'll leave them for a few days, hopefully someone will claim them. The storms are supposed to be milder next week, lets hope so. But I'm sure I heard the weather girl say that today's rain showers would be more organised. !!!!!! does that mean, someone is going to line them up?
Anyway, porridge has been eaten, fish fed, WM< & DW are both on so I'm going to do some knitting & watch Midsummer Murders that I recorded earlier.
Hugs Hester
