Royal Mail compensation - proof of value

They want proof of value, what do they do when you can't give it to them.
Also, what happens when
-you got sold item for free?
-you got sold item but split it up into parts and sold separately? Say you bought a video games console and controller but sold the controller for example
I think it's pretty poor they won't pay what the item is worth, which is the last sale imo (your ebay sale), but can understand their position considering how much mail goes missing, or at least the buyer claims is "missing", I'm looking at 1% of my sales

No proof of value = 6 first class stamps as consolation with proof of postage.0

This interests me as I am about to collect a claim form as one of my items has been "lost" in the post.
What proof of value do they look for?
Getting fed up with PO as I left a parcel to be posted this morning and the person who took it to PO phoned me to say it would be the next value up, as they tried to fit my parcel in the "box" which of course would not fit as I had parcelled it for the slim size which should have went through the "plastic" they have - but the counter assistant did not even try that.
Now I have to explain to my buyer why it has not yet been posted and I always post within a day of payment. Rant over.Looking forward to the day I have nothing left to list on eBay0 -
When an item of childrens clothing got lost last year I just printed out the ebay sale page and they accepted that as I did not have the original receipt.
Mine was only £6 ish though so maybe it may be different if the missing item is worth a lot more.0 -
If its a private sale they will accept the sale price on Ebay.
If its a business sale - they will only accept a receipt proving cost price.
If you have any store receipts that dont put what the item is - they may be worth keeping for a rainy day.0 -

Its a mazing how many PO staff thing the 'shoe box' REPLACES the slimmer but wider and longer size.0 -
I have only ever had cheques as reimbursement, even for small amounts. I did though get books of stamps when I used to claim back the signed for element of recorded , made a fortune on that!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. this just happened to me - sold something on the 8th, recorded 1st out the same day with minutes before the post office closed, because I really do care about my customer service, got reference- now on 15th, buyers kicking off "where is it , sort it out with royal mail" - yes because if they don't know where it is, they clearly need guidance from me on the phone as to where it is....
when can I claim compensation - well, all the way out on 27th, buyer will be posting all kinds of negative crap by then, gotta think VERY carefully. Think i'll start by scanning up the ticket posting him a link saying it wasn't me , don't blame me, blame those w***kers at royal mail and we're both in no mans land till 27th, where I refund because I can refund
the odds on steering this ship home without red feedback are next to none, I have never had royal mail lose something on me before then make me wait till the end of a month before I can refund a buyer screaming for answers, because any time sooner and he can just bank the cash get the delivery and leave me doubly out of pocket.0 -

The buyer should not have to wait until you have put your claim in to Royal Mail for a refund. A refund should be given once a reasonable time has elapsed without delivery. It might not be your fault the item has gone astray, but it certainly isn't the buyers either.
Ebay will expect you to offer a refund without a buyer having to wait 15 working days or whatever the waiting period for Royal Mail claims is.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -

Always makes me chuckle when sellers put that they will give you the proof of postage so YOU can claim if the item gets lost in the post. Always tempted to buy and then open a case to say it has not arrived just to prove a point.0 -
Yes sellers are forced to refund by ebay. But if the buyer claims they can claim the full ebay sale amount? Whereas businesses can only claim the original value, so lose money through no fault of their own. They say life can be unfair sometimes but this is taking the p***. Downright fraudulent if they only give a few stamps if you can't prove the value.
Has anyone challenged the royal mail in court over these rules?0
