Easyjet Seat Booking

Hi All.

Might not be the right forum but desperate for advice.

I have booked a short haul flight with Easyjet and due to needing extra seat space, went for an extra legroom at the front middle of the aircraft. When I made the booking online all of the other seats in the row said you couldnt have if you needed seatbelt extension but this one did not. However, after talking to several people they seemed to suggest I would be able to and I should look to change it into normal seating.

Looking on Easyjet Q&A they don't answer the question but they suggest if you need extra room you purchase an additional seat. So this I did over the phone but the sales clerk did not really seem to understand my question and she has sold me an additional extra leg room seat (to join against the one I already have!). She actually asked whether I preferred to keep the extra legroom or have a standard one and when I said I think it is their rules telling me I can't have extra leg room seat she said no it is fine - in fact she insisted it was okay. I am not convinced this is the right information as I need to be able to have the arm rest up between whatever two seats I have and people tell me that these seats have fixed arms (possibly due to the lap trays being within as there are no seats in front for them to drop down from). Again I have not been able to determine this from the Easyjet website.

I don't want to waste money unnecessarily and I don't want embarassment on the day so I am hoping someone can offer some thoughts or advice please.

Thanks so much!

I guess it depends upon the reason why you want extra seat space. Have a look at this page : http://support.easyjet.com/case-5575 - and click on 'which seat can I select'

Extra leg rooms seats are more than usually located next to emergency exits, hence the restrictions. If any of the restrictions listed above apply, then they won't let you sit in the seats, even if you have paid for them.

As for trays being in the arms, in my experience of booking these seats (have a 6'4" husband), again they usually are, the arms are fixed and the seats are sometimes a little narrower as a result.

Best thing you can do is ascertain what type of plane it is and look at some layouts on the web to help.
  • Thanks. I have seen this info and that is another thing that made me thing there is an error in what I have been told. Sounds like from the point of view of width, I would actually be worse off than in "normal" seats. I need the extra seat room because to put it delicately "I am larger than most normal people". Sounds like I am going to need to call them up again and speak to a supervisor who might actually understand my predicament and transfer them to two normal seats.

I assume there's a "not" missing in the last sentence? Which seat are you in? 1E and 1F are not considered emergency exit seats and you should have no problem in these seats.

I'm presuming from your answer you may need to use the belt extender? If so, looking at their rules (regardless of what it said against the booking online) you shouldn't have booked these seats. If you did stick with them and they refuse you on boarding, I'm guessing they wouldn't give you a refund.

Best bet is to call them back, explain very plainly what your situation is, quoting their rules and see what they say. Your first post although mentioning the extenders and needing extra space, didn't mention the exact reason why the space was required and I'm wondering if perhaps Easyjet weren't entirely clear on this either, hence all the confusion? That's doesn't take away the fact that they may well have known what you were on about and just decided to enjoy an upsell to you.

To give you an idea on the seat size, I have a very average size 16 ladies backside and I find these seats with built in trays snug but different airlines/planes do vary.

    Good luck with it.

I took this to mean around row 12 / 13 which is often next to boarding doors / emergency exits.

Which seats have you booked Keeley1973?

You will not be allowed the extra leg room seats if you are overweight, it's a health and safety issue for most airlines. I have the same problem. I am flying next month different airline but I have just bought two seats so I can enjoy the flight in a bit more comfort. Initially I booked one seat back in October when I planned my trip, but a change in my circumstances means I need an extra seat now, so I called the airline this week. Normally I would have lost money on the first booking but because I booked again with the same airline, same flight, they have refunded the original booking and I now have booked two new seats next to each other, a window and middle seat! :)
  • Thanks all. Yes it is because I would need a seat belt extension. Sounds like I am going to find it very snug! In answer to earlier question yes I have 1E and 1F booked (so perhaps this explains why when I booked, there was no mention in the hover over to say I couldn't have them) whereas for others in Row 1 it specifically said you couldn't. It does seem to confirm in their general Q&A that I can't have any in that row so I think I will go with this and try and rebook (it seems to be not such a busy flight as with 4 weeks to go, hardly anyone has pre-booked seating). I was very clear on the phone about the reasons why I need what I need - just couldn't make the person understand!
  • I think my airline made a boob... I originally paid £125 for my first booking, for the new booking I paid £209 for two seats, and they have refunded the £125, with my maths my two new seats have cost me £84! :)

Do you have a link to that? For all intents and purposes, 1E and 1F are regular seats so there's no reason I can think of why you wouldn't be allowed to wear a seat belt extension there. They are not exit row seats.

But are they bulkhead seats? If so, sometimes they have the tray table in the arm rests. You can wear a seat belt extension in bulkhead rows (as long as they are not emergency exit rows) but you wouldn't be able to put the arm rest up between the two seats like the OP wants to do.
