American Express website DOWN AGAIN

Options
A month ago Amex told me they were reducing the cash back rate on payments for groceries and petrol - just the reason I'd started using them.

I now go to check my balance. "Your account is blocked" says the website.

I ring for help. "No, it's not blocked" says the helper.

I try again. "Your account is blocked" says the website.

I ring for help. "Yeh, that's because the site is down. Wait 24 hours" says the helper.

I wait 24 hours and try again. "Your account is blocked" says the website.

Don't get an Amex card.

  • All companies experience technical difficulties sometimes... I've had an Amex charge card for 20 years and have only rarely had difficulties.

Much less trouble than Lloyds as an example.

    Millions would disagree.

I'm also confused, I don't ever recall Amex UK having a card that had a different cash back rate in supermarkets and petrol stations.
  • Google is your friend. Just try "american express cash back petrol supermarket" and look at the fifth hit.

Only one I'm aware of is an MBNA card, which happens to be an Amex but has nothing to do with them.

Please try a sentence structured in English.

But maybe I get it. It's an Amex, but nothing to do with them?

So when I say Amex won't let me see my account, it's not Amex - it's Amex. OK.

    The site is still down.

So do you have an MBNA Amex or an Amex Amex?

If you can't understand the difference, then I guess you're just another sucker. Maybe read http://www.mbna.co.uk/understanding-credit/visa-mastercard-amex/

The Amex site hasn't been down in the past 2 weeks. If you have an MBNA Amex, you won't be able to access it on the Amex website, only the MBNA website, but you should know that as you've had the card for a while...

Same happened to me yesterday too. Logged on and said account was blocked but referred to an account I had with them into 2010. Logged out and back in and it was fine.
