Virgin Media House Move

Hi everyone,

I am moving house in a few weeks and currently have a 12 month contract (10 month or so left) with Virgin media who supply TV, Broadband and Phone. However, the new address is showing as having no Virgin Media access.

My questions is, is my contract still payable? I would have liked to continue with them, but if they cant provide the service in the new house am I still liable to pay off the remainder of the contract? I was hoping it would be nullified as they would be the ones who couldnt deliver on the service. I know its clutching at straws, but thought I would ask advice before contacting them.

Thanks
Vin

It's hardly Virgin's fault that you are moving to an area not covered by their service. As such, you can expect to be invoiced for an Early Termination Of Contract (ETC) fee.
    Sorry to disappoint you..

    Thanks for the response.

Yeah, thats what I thought and expected  Any idea what sort of cost that will be? Is it simply remaining months X monthly payment?

If you stick with them for the phone and broadband using their 'national' service (which uses a normal BT line), they might waive the ETC fee.

Never knew that was an option, thanks. I'll ask them about that when I contact them. I dont have to pay BT as well as VM for that option though, no?

No, although it uses the BT line it is all managed/billed by Virgin. http://store.virginmedia.com/national-broadband.html

I put in the postcode and am getting this:

Sorry, your home isn't in a Virgin Media area

We've checked your postcode and unfortunately we can't bring you any Virgin Broadband, TV or home phone services :undecided

Virgin's non-Cable services are not the best available and you'll probably be better off elsewhere anyhow.

Your ETC will depend on the services you currently have and how long you have left on the minimum term, so only Virgin will be able to tell you the exact figure.
  • Thanks for all the replies and advice. I'll call them and find out the cost.

    Regards
    Vin

  • I am in the same situation. Virgin want to charge me £240 plus package all the equipment up myself and send it back to them. When I signed up I mentioned I would be moving house in the next couple of months and was told ' oh don't worry about that, its really simple to move your services.' No mention of the extortionate charges then.
