If you were starting from scratch with this, YYYYMMDD format would allow posts to be completely sorted by date order, at the moment it only really sorts on day. If you do a sort on date, ends of different months appear together. But so long as you pay attention to what you're doing it doesn't really matter, and at worst you accidentally enter a competition earlier than you strictly needed to :-)

YYYYMMDD would be cleaner for sorts, but on balance .... *shrug* :-)

How does one " enter a competition earlier than you strictly needed to":D

I just enter when I can & forget about it.Enddate comping just seems fraught with difficulties eg if the comp ends a few days early as often happens or the guessedenddate is "out" a bit.

Change was tried by MSE about a year back re date format.

It went down like a lead balloon with most.

Might be worth bearing in mind that the majority of comps are posted by a minority of MSE Comp board users.Maybe these comp posters should have an input to see if any change causes them more effort/hassle ?

The last change was a bit problematic & was quickly dropped.

I agree, I do the same and just enter when they're posted - the only caveat to that is during advents, most of my time was taken 'adventing' so for a few days I did use the sort facility to just enter regular comps that were about to expire, which is when I noticed that comps weren't quite sorted in descending date order. But I repeat, on balance, *shrug* :-)

No worries.I mainly comp as they get posted but each day I use this for a mix up of the board.

    Via this.

Classic case of "If someone doesn't see it my way, it means they have a problem" :p:D

To change it as you suggest would be advantageous in one or two small ways, and disadvantageous in other, also fairly small, ways. I prefer it as it is. Not because I'm allergic to change, but mainly because I think it would be confusing, especially to newbies, to see a non-standard date format. That might be worth it, if it made a significant improvement, but I don't think it would.

which really makes sense. why make fun of what someone wants to discuss just because you dont care? i didnt care for your other picture the other day "the problem with some people is that theyre still alive". crass. however humorous it was intended to be ...

As the OP has now flounced off, your first post is somewhat redundant. It actually, IMO. makes no sense whatsoever because we are a British, not an American, site. The only problem I have using the current lay-out (and believe me, the ditziest poster is Einstein compared to me:D) is when they are wrongly formatted in the first place and I see no reason to believe that problem would vanish.

In the second quote, you seem to be referring to BlueBella's posts in the Valentine's thread - I was under the impression that was a humourous thread and, frankly, it is hard to see why anyone would take it seriously.

On a personal level, I found this post of yours

'the problem is too many people get bound up in a conspiricy theories and cliques and dont spend enough time comping.
has anyone noticed theyre all women'

fairly distasteful (spelling mistakes in quote not mine:cool:) but it was hardly offensive enough to put you on ignore - I wonder why you feel you have to ignore Bella (although I hope she doesn't care:rotfl:
