A suggestion.
Wouldn't it be easier to sort by closing date if the title of competitions were named MM/DD instead of dd/mm.
That way sorting A-Z by title will give you a list of comps from ending soonest to ending latest.
A simple fix and would save quite some searching and complex sorting.
A further suggestion would be to add the year. So when it comes to December the sorting remains consistent.
+1 for YY/MM/DD

Seems like a lot of work (changing all the end dates) for something which isn't that complicated anyway. The way end-daters sort the board out now means they only have to take a couple of seconds skipping a page or two before they get to the next date, so I don't think it's much of a problem, in my opinion anyway.0

Hi. I don't think it needs changing, it's easy and not complicated as it is and this would be a huge amount of work that is unnecessary IMOMAY THE ODDS BE EVER IN YOUR FAVOUR0

I agree with sophie27x and softpad (above) - it would take a lot of work for Board Guides to change the layout of every competition currently on the boards for something fairly simple
I spent the last 3 years comping by end date and it didn't involve any complexity at all
To save time and sorting when you log in, perhaps you could save a link to your preferred layout on your toolbar.
Here it is sorted to list 200 comps per page HERE
Or 100 comps per page HERE0 -
I prefer it as it is, to be honest.
I think those new to the forum would be very confused by, e.g. 01/10 meaning 10th January and not 1st October... Given it's a UK forum, everyone would expect the dd/mm format...0 -
I prefer it as it is - so many people will forget and the boards will be a complete jumble!:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0

I currently end-date (this is set to change soon as I'm almost up-to-date whooop!).
I would find it easier if the competitions were listed as elisplace suggested so I didn't have to started skipping pages at the end of each day, although I hadn't realised you could change the number of comps per page as mentioned by Melli (thanks Melli!). I don't agree that people will forget/be confused: people are pretty smart really and can figure out that 11/27 does not in fact mean the 11th of Octoember. However given it is not something that can just be implemented for comps listed today and going forwards, and would instead need every single comp title to be updated, I really don't think the limited benefit is worth that huge amount of work for the BGs.Thanks to all OPs and everyone who helps/posts etc!!:T0 -
Whils't I agree It is a lot of effort, I must ask, what did people do before putting the end date in at all? I can only assume that this got sorted out over time.
And what happens when new people post the incorrect date, or don't post the date at all? Forum member request a correction, and it gets implemented immediately.
Thanks for the more than 25 posts per page btw, that's a life saver.
Benefits of naming in the manner I suggest stretch beyond sorting. I.e. If I wanted to filter the competitions by the month in which they end, currently this is very difficult.
however; By filtering by Thread name starts with "02/", filters out anything not ending in this month, then you can still sort and customise however you want, thus allowing you to concentrate on competitions ending soonest.
It is just my opinion, and it comes from years working with and implementing file naming conventions.
The long benefits outweigh the short term hassle.0 -
Also, once it is sorted in this manner, you don't need to go back to the pages at all, you simply click next thread and it will pass you on to the very next ending soonest competition.
After all, cutting down on number of clicks per comp, equals clicks spent on other comps.
For example:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/search.php?searchid=152601390&pp=200
Should give you all competitions ending in february sorted from 1st to end at 200 threads per page. However, the sort does not work0 -

I think a BG went through and amended them all.

Someone has to point it out - there is no "it gets implemented immediately" and if the poster doesn't change it then it gets moved to game over.

Takes seconds to skip pages if they are not for the month you want

To who? Maybe if you use the board in that way but there is no benefit to anyone who doesn't or to the comp posters0 -

Unless for some reason you actually want to open every post that would take far more time and clicks - From whatever order they are listed in - any post you really want to look at you just open in a new tab and close it when you're done, glance at the list again until you find another you want to look at, open in new tab etc.0
