This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Good morning everyone
Bad night with wild weather and an unidentified phone call to wake us up at 2:45am. Nightmare journey home yesterday with M60 and M6 both closed and M62 at pretty much standstill. so took 3 and a half hours to drive 35 miles. Am exhausted but it's Friday tomorrow and am off for a couple of days for DH's half term next week.
Hi and welcome to mackemlass :hello:
Snoozer - hope all goes well today x

Wow what a night weather wise , my neighbours shed door wasn't secured properly and was ripped off it's hinges and smashed their greenhouse . That was at 4 and haven't been able to doze back off since . It's going to be a long day . We haven't got it half as bad as others though across the country - hope everyone is managing to stay dry and safe .
What's been happening here , I broke my elbow on Monday , was carrying dirty washing down the stairs and tripped over my own feet and landed straight on my elbow , no major damage so should heal in the 6 weeks the caste is on for .
Ds1 is home on sat from uni for a week , cannot wait. I miss him so much whilst he is away . Haven't seen him since 2nd January . His bed is all made up ready for his return. No doubt I will have empty cupboards and fridge when he goes back .
We have parents evening tonight with dd . Expecting a good set of reports from her teachers as she has been working so hard , spends about 2 1/2-3 hours a night studying , so am going to put a sausage casserole in the slow cooker for when we get back as don't fancy cooking at 8.30pm will make the mashed potatoes during the day so they can just be reheated .
Cherry and coconut cake, rocky road on the baking menu today
Usual stuff to do today but going to have a cuppa and then think about starting on breakfast for dd and ds2
Stay safe today xx0 -

I've been to that Magical Place and bought cute baby things
Mr tru was in a customer's house yesterday, they heard a bang and looked out of the window just as the man's shed fell apart and blew across the garden.
The chicken run is a mess. I've sorted it as well as I can – dug and raked the sloppy mud away and raked dry(ish) earth over it. It'll probably be soaked again this morning, the chickens don't seem to care though
Our fence has had a good battering, we fixed three more panels last night. Just what I wanted to do in the dark, wind and rainThere's so many screws holding it together, I think it's now more metal than wood

Bin day today, I was too scared to put them out last night in case they blew awayWe had thunder, lightning, hail, rain and wind. I've just been out, it's calm now, just a slight breeze.
EDIT - scarlettsmum I hope you're not in too much pain? I've never broken my elbow so I have no idea what it feels like
Bulletproof0 -
scarlettsmum i feel for I broke my elbow a few years ago and its jolly painful and very uncomfortable.especially as it was my right arm and I'm right-handed. Even washing ones hair becomes a chore.I hope it mends quickly for you.
Not too windy at the moment here in north Kent but very cold.Looking out from my window at the moment its looking very dark and grey and very low cloud over the Medway river, normally a sign of more bad weather. My bulbs are doing their best to struggle up in the wet soil, and as yet no sign of the wallflowers flowering. I was thinking last night about how the weather will affect food prices .the veg will go up and meat and I daresay cereal products as well.So it will mean more belt tightening for us all I think. I do hope the big supermarkets don't just use it as an excuse to hike up the prices .Folk are feeling the pinch anyway, and sadly once they have gone up they never ever come back down again.
Well on that cheery note I shall go forth and have my breakfast oats whilst I still can afford them:): then off on the school run.have a good day everyone and try to stay warm and safe and dry if you can, thousands sadly cannot this morning

Morning All
scarlettsmum - Ouch, that sounds painful, hope it heals soon.
Thinking of you today snoozer.
Welcome to mackemlass.
Hope you are all safe weatherwise, it's a bit blowy and wet here but nothing compared to the south.
Work and hospice today if I feel ok, came in from work yesterday and lay on the settee for a nap, felt yukky. Still not 100 per cent but will see how I go. Had a terrible AF (thought it would be slowing down at my age) with quite a lot of pain which I think made me feel very sick and tired.
Anyway, made sausage roll for tea which was ok, nothing special. Also made some biscuits for DD so the tins are stocked up.
Have a good day everyone, take care. XX0 -
Morning all,
Terrible night weather wise blowing a gale all night and hail / rain off and on all night. Got dd's boyf here he slept on the sofa, as his train home was cancelled, he is about to leave to see if he can get one this morning.
Off to work for me, will drop dd at the station on the way she is off to uni. Dinner tonight will be something with chips, nice quick tea and I have a waitrose delivery too.
Need to do a wash tonight and get it on the airer, we have got the de-humidifier going all the time atm because everything is so damp.

Sitting here in my towel as I have just had a shower, we are off to London as soon as DH gets home at 9am, my appointment is 10.30am but we are allowing for traffic. We are taking a sandwich and a drink with us just in case we are there for the usual 2 - 3 hours, then we have to travel back and DH starts his second shift at 3.30pm.
Right off to get ready

Morning everyone
Now light, dried out underfoot after the horrendous weather yesterday – we were lucky here it wasn’t as bad as other parts of the country. The strong winds and rain is forecast again for tomorrow though.
DH up and getting ready for work – he didn’t get in until nearly 8.30pm last night – so it was a long day.
Dinner last night was a chippy tea – enjoyed by us all, we collected it on the way home after attending the meeting about DS2’s trip. Remembered to get the chicken portions out to defrost so we’ll be having those for dinner with mash, veg, LO cauli/broc cheese, LO Yorkshires and gravy.
We’ve had a change of plan regarding the weekend, had to check with organisers that rally was still going ahead due to the weather conditions – it is, but as we have to travel nearly 100 miles to attend DH said he wasn’t happy about towing that distance to that part of the country in the weather conditions forecast – so we’ve managed to find accommodation very near to the venue and will stay there instead of towing the caravan. I feel it’s a sensible decision in these circumstances.
Work wasn’t especially busy yesterday but steady, only worked until lunchtime when I then returned home and did some chores. Today will be much of the same, want to get the washing, drying and ironing done, housework and deal with any caravan enquiries needed.
On my way home from work yesterday, I saw a car half on the road and half on the grass verge facing in the wrong direction, all the other cars were just indicating and going round it, as I waited to go past I noticed the damage to the front of the vehicle so went past and parked my car just in front and got out and went back to the car – there was a young woman in the drivers seat who was trying to use a mobile to get someone to come to help her she was very shaky and the accident had only just happened – I offered to stay with her or loan her my mobile to get in contact with anyone. She wasn’t hurt in any way just very shaken. An off duty Policeman then stopped and took over. I was absolutely horrified at how many people just pulled round her and left her there. I know when DS1 fell off his motorbike before Xmas I was so grateful people just didn’t leave him there and several people stopped to help him.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all,
Interesting day yesterday: blowing a gale all day , no news yet on his office and future employment, and he had his 1 year check up results: still clear of cancer. We went for icecream and sat watching the sea swell at Mumbles. The bay was full of dark grey water, but only the wind was making whitecaps.
fat club: DH now weighs a stone less than he did four weeks ago, I'm 12 lbs down. 18 days till we go to Egypt!
Waiting in for my injection delivery: seamless this time as I phoned them and got through straight away - what a difference to last time!
I shall be working my way through the ironing mountain, running stuff through the washer and then sorting out the small items we are taking up to DD & SIL over the weekend as they move house. DH is collecting the van this afternoon and the neighbours kindly offered to help him move the heavier stuff.
I have to decide what dinner tonight shall be - I'm thinking a nice curry using quorn as it is 'green' today.
Stay warm! xI can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
Morning all,
snoozer thinking of you today
scarlettsmum ouch take it easy
luxor yay for Mr Luxor:T
nmlc good for you x
It's a nice quiet peaceful day after last nights horrendous winds. We had to avoid two fallen trees on the way to my sons last night and came home to four smashed fence panels, still could have been worse. I believe the storms will be back tomorrow.
Hubby at home today. So a leisurely start, need to visit my cousin later as she needs hubby to sort her phone out and she has a pair of boots for me:D
I dread the power going off, fingers crossed it doesn't, I know lots of people in the north west and wales are without power.
I'm totally addicted to the Winter Olympics shall try and drag myself away today. Fish for tea. Have a good safe day all xStarted Self Managed DMP 10th May 2017.
