Thank you FairyPrincess I have posted a reply explaining what I tried, would you mind sprinkling your fairy dust and asking your OH what Im doing wrong please?? Id be very grateful as I was really disappointed at my results. Thank you :j:wave:0 -
unixgirluk wrote: »Hi, I put oats and water in a bowl (1 part oats and 2 parts water) in a bowl over night (cover it with a plate), this can then be put in the microwave in the morning. If you want to add peanut butter then heat the oats for about 30 seconds then stir in a spoonful and heat for another 30-60 seconds.
Unixgirluk .. does yours have a lot of liquid in them in the morning?? Im sure Ive gone wrong somewhere !!!.. Many thanks:wave:0 -

Scuff i would probably add the peanut butter etc in the morning?
I did attempt to make some using half cup oats, milk (normal) and greek yogurt. I added grated apple and tea spoon of honey, covered and soaked. In the morning they were very creamy but there was alot of liquid. Not sure if this is right or if i did something wrong?? pictures I've seen dont look like that, it reminded me of a runny coleslaw. I would really like to try it again and see if i can get it better as Im not sure if I liked it.
I am trying to lose a little weight, but im trying to do it by just eating more healthy and exercise than following any plan.
if anyone has any good tips or recipes please let me know, I will deffo try again.. many thanks.
A little less confused newbie !!!
I had to try around with the quantities a bit before I got them how I liked them (like yesterday I got to work and when I went to eat mine, they were super stodgy! Like stand your spoon up stuff haha!) But maybe try with slightly more oats / less milk, and then in the morning if they havent turned out right you can always add more milk to get them the right consistency? I can't see why that wouldn't work. I think maybe oats are similar to flour etc in that some brands just need more/less liquid? Dunno! I just use the bog standard basic value 70p for a big (1kg?) bag oats, not the quick cook stuff (I presume you have looked in the same ocrners of the internet as I did though as your measurements are the same, so you'll know this!)September 2016 GC £21.37/£1200 -
Thank you Scuff. I have found alot of recipes on Pinterest which is an amazing site to get lost in!!! but still got confused ha ha...
I will try again and maybe use less of the milk, and yes like you used the bog standard cheapy oats. Many thanks:wave:0 -
After seeing overnight oats on Pinterest, I tried them too. I don't heat mine up, I like them cold!
Here are some fab recipes:

ebaybaby I eat mine cold too, thought they might be a bit weird but gave them a try and DEEEELISH
The katheats blog recipe is the one I followed the most. Pinterest seems to be the main advertiser for overnight oats - that's where I did most of my discovering - we must be hip!September 2016 GC £21.37/£1200 -
Goodness, I never thought of just soaking the porridge oats and not cooking it. Does it just taste like cold porridge?
I make porridge with medium oatmeal and water, cooked on the stove, and usually serve it with sliced banana underneath. It makes a nutritious but not too filling meal. I can't have milk, unfortunately, but if you were to make it with milk and cream it would probably be much more filling and substantial.
If you buy coarse oatmeal (pin-head oatmeal?) I think you need to soak it overnight before cooking it.0 -
I have never done 'overnight' oats either as i like my porridge hot. I do mine in the miccy and it takes 2.5 mins. I make them with water and add a splash of soy milk and either golden syrup or agave nectar (not a lot) and a couple of spoons of blueberries or sliced nana. Keeps me going all morning unlike any other breakfast. For a total treat (but healthy) I have carrot cake porridge sometimes - grated carrot, oats, nutmeg, vanilla, cinnamon, raisins and walnut cooked in milk or soy milk and add sweetener. I am on Weight watchers diet so when I am not at work I have hot oats (40gms Asda smart price oats, cup water and sweetner - nuked in the microwave for 4 mins on medium) and when I go to work I take my breakies in which I make the night before - a Weight Watchers yoghurt mixed with 30gma Asda oats and then add fresh or frozen fruit. There are some nice recipes on this site too....

I did used to disk my oats overnight, but forgot a few times.
No different when just microwaved in the morning. Two minutes, lovely with half a teaspoon of honey and half a sliced banana.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
