Apologies if i have posted this in the wrong place!!
Can anyone help me pleeeease?? I'm looking for tips and info on over night oats, they look so delicious. But I have seen so many different ways to make them, and recipes to try I'm a little over whelmed.
I'm trying to lose a little weight, but I am on a tight budget, and my main aim is to try to do this by eating healthy options and not 'diet'.
I'm confused as to whether you have to cover the mixed oats completely as some people soaked them overnight in a air tight jar..some people have put them in a bowl or a jam jar.
Some of the recipes suggest using peanut butter which I love, but I am unable to find out if you can use the ordinary peanut butter we get from the local supermarket, or use something else.
I would be very grateful and appreciative of any tips or advice that anyone could give me please...thank you

I put equal quantities of milk, yoghurt (the greek stuff) and oats into my cereal bowl, give them a good stir and then just put some cling film / foil over the top of the bowl (more to stop them taking on the flavour of other stuff in the fridge). In the morning when i get up i give them a stir, add honey / nuts / fruit as i feel like. Not sure about the peanut butter, but i cant see why regular supermarket stuff would be a problem. When are you wanting to add it, before bed or in the morning?
It's super filling btw (in a good way) I don't even think about food til lunch (this is unusual haha)September 2016 GC £21.37/£1200 -
Hi, I put oats and water in a bowl (1 part oats and 2 parts water) in a bowl over night (cover it with a plate), this can then be put in the microwave in the morning. If you want to add peanut butter then heat the oats for about 30 seconds then stir in a spoonful and heat for another 30-60 seconds.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. I love porridge, but unfortunately I cannot eat it because it messes up with my blood sugar and I end up craving more crabs after about 20 mins.
I thought I'd mention it because eating porridge makes me eat more instead of helping lose weight, but I'm probably an exception0 -
My OH uses normal peanut butter in his overnight oats. I prefer cooked ones and I stir in the peanut butter as well. The protein and fat helps keep me full until lunch time, otherwise I'm a bit like terra and get hungry sooner than I should.0

I've not heard of overnight oats before. Shall look it up as it sounds interesting. My husband doesn't have much time in the morning but loves porridge so he makes his own instant porridge which I got the recipe from on here. Can't remember the thread but it's 3 tbsp oats, 2 tbsp powdered milk and 1 tbsp sweetener. Then 250ml of hot water ( I think it's 250ml or thereabouts). It's great for running out the door and just eating at work when you don't have much time.0

Oats are so simple fishingwidow - the reason you are hearing so many different ways of doing them is because you really can do them in so many different ways!! You just have to find the one you like the best.
I use ordinary porridge oats (not the instant kind) and I cook them on the stove top. A portion for one cooks in about the time it takes to make a cup of tea, and that's instant enough for me!!
This is my morning routine - stumble downstairs, find non-stick pan (don't even think of doing them in a non-non-stick pan), measure half a mug of oats and a full mug of milk into the pan and put on to heat. Give the pan a stir. Put the kettle on and find the mugs. Give the pan another stir. Find a bowl and spoon. Give the pan another stir. Make the tea. Give the pan another stir. It's probably coming to the boil now, so I stir it for a bit, then pour into the bowl and add a spoonful of unrefined sugar. Fab.
You can make as much or as little as you want, you can use water, or milk, or half-and-half, you can put any sort of sweetener in that you fancy (my mother uses salt). The important thing is that there should be half the quantity of oats to liquid. The overnight bit will save you precisely 28.5 seconds in the morning. Some people reckon the oats are better for you if they've absorbed the milk overnight, or something. If I remember, I'll soak them, but I certainly wouldn't lose sleep over it. Sometimes I can't decide that far ahead what I want for breakfast!!
Simple, quick, cheap, more or less healthy (depending on what you top it with), and tasty. I love it.
Oh, just re-read your post. I soak them in the pan I'll use to cook them - why make more work.No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -
Our Porage (check the pack with the man in a skirt)made from Alford Mill oats, is prepped by BoPsie every morn in the winter. 1 Cup of oats, 2 cups of wattter. Boiled. Served.
It will never come into contact with peanut butter!0 -

Thank you everyone for your comments.
Scuff i would probably add the peanut butter etc in the morning?
I did attempt to make some using half cup oats, milk (normal) and greek yogurt. I added grated apple and tea spoon of honey, covered and soaked. In the morning they were very creamy but there was alot of liquid. Not sure if this is right or if i did something wrong?? pictures I've seen dont look like that, it reminded me of a runny coleslaw. I would really like to try it again and see if i can get it better as Im not sure if I liked it.
I am trying to lose a little weight, but im trying to do it by just eating more healthy and exercise than following any plan.
if anyone has any good tips or recipes please let me know, I will deffo try again.. many thanks.
A little less confused newbie !!!:wave:0
