according to BT "we dont do compensation"!

Options
So, I had a fault with my phone line, BT engineer came out and I had to book the whole day off work and the engineer replaced an inch of copper wire that went into my house. It was OK for 5 minutes before it broke again and I had to get another engineer out.

2nd engineer came out the following day as I kicked up a fuss and he replaced the whole wiring that goes from the street and into my house thus fixing the problems. He said previous engineer didn't do his job properly.

I am now asking for compensation from BT for £80 for the day I took off work as they didn't do their job properly and i lost a days work! This is a genuine, fair amount to claim back and I haven't plucked it out of thin air as I calculated it.

BT are saying they " don't do compensation" and are only offering 1 month free line rental as a gesture of good will. Surely though they can't just decide they "don't do compensation"???

I've got the managers manager phoning me tomorrow so please can someone help with any advice on this? They are all to happy to charge you £130 if the engineer finds a fault is with your equipment!

Thanks in advance

  • If you have a residential service then what you have been told by BT is correct, They don't pay any compensation for faults.

They will refund you the charges for the services you couldn't use until the fault is fixed.

Anything offerred over and above that is goodwill.

Do you know where I can find this online? As I've been looking everywhere. Thanks

Also I'm not asking for compensation because of the fault, I'm asking because I took the day off work and m now out of pocket because the engineer didn't do his job properly in the first place. If he had then I wouldn't be asking.

Thats a consequential loss which isn't covered by the terms of your contract. Or by anyones contract actually. You cannot claim the money back, sorry.

I moved into a new build property. BT were transferring my old number. But because the houses were still being built they couldnt lay all the cables.

Took several weeks before they got it sorted. I got a nice cheque from them. Which i thought was odd as i owed them money for the transfer and bill.

I said dint you deduct it from the bill and just bill me the balance? Nope.

Then they said i didnt need to pay all in one go anyway. Why not setup a direct debit.
So i setup a direct debit banked the cheque and went on holiday with it.

I like BT. Although they must have had it back with interest in the past 10 years or so.
