After many many years of being with orange on contract I have now cancelled my account.
Reason...I hardly ever use the phone. I hardly ever text.
I need a phone for emergencies and break down. I have a nokia 6600, which I am sure I could get unlocked. I am not one of these types of people that need the most upto date phone with every gadget going. My handbag is always full of junk lol so a small phone would get lost in the pile of receipts lol.
Which network would you advise? I need cheap but a provider that has good coverage and customer services.
Many thanks

O2 do have good offers. But Vodafone do too! if i spend £5 in the week, you get free calls and txts all weekend!!!0

yeah voda payg is the best bet, if needs be you can in a emergency needing more talktime than a regular top up buy 100 mins bundle for 15.00, and no payg network deal comes close to that - its low usage contract value with no monthly commitment, I used Voda at night with STC and stopped calling mobiles from the landline saving a fortune & reaped the benefits of free weekends

PS) Voda payg customer serices are the best, t-mob orange and 3 all go to India o2 are clueless but Voda is scottish based and excellent, any problem has been rectified in that 1st call everytime for 5 years when I called ( weither I spoke with a scot or english accent I got great service )
o2/voda are the same for coverage and the best off the UK networksSO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe

You seem to have overllooked T- Mobile PAYG X-Net Mobile Rate 12p a minute shortly rising to 15p i believe.
Then their is Asda PAYG piggy backing on Voda. 16p a minute for first 3 minutes then 8p a minute.
Having said that the OP only wants a reliable emergency phone and Virgin Payg takes a lot of beating in that respect.0 -
Yes you are correct, it will not be used really all that much. Forget texting I can't be bothered I would rather call to be honest. My other concern is my husband is on the orange network and I need to know it isn't gonna cost me an arm and a leg to ring him if I needed to. So what is important is across networks being cheap,my daughter and son are both on different networks too. This is blowing this tiny brain of mine. I don't want to spend more than £10 a month if poss, as that is really all I can afford. I certainly don't want to be held in a contract.0

Why didn't you just get Orange to send you a free PAYG SIM and you could have kept your number. You can request one free on their website. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

I did and I have it, but I was not sure about other providers. In the meantime they still charged me for being on contract when I had cancelled it, because I had not registared the new pay as you go sim card. Fortunately I complained and they have credited my account back.0
