Morning everyone
I'm continuing to resist buying food at work, tho we gave into temptation last night and treated ourselves to a bottle of wine - $9 so not too bad, and that'll be the week's treat. Cheaper than a sandwich and a coffee in the cafe.
Porridge for breakfast done, lunch will be pumpkin soup with last night's leftover chicken and aubergine curry mixed in, and dinner tonight is grilled chicken, salad and sweet potato.
The list for tomorrow's shop is long this week. We seem to have run out of staple ingredients all at once, hate it when that happens! We make a whole chicken and a couple of sausages or a piece of fish do us for the week but we keep a big bag of frozen prawns in the freezer too, and they've just run out as well.
The neighbour's cat hasn't been seen in the house for a while now, maybe our 2 have learnt to defend their territory! One of ours spent the night sharing my pillow - except he doesn't like to share and somehow manages to kick me off in the night... this is the same one that sleeps under the duvet with us.
Right well a NSD planned today - no wine allowed on the diet today so no temptation - and there was JUST enough fuel in the car for me to get to work and back. Paid the big bill last night so at least that's off my mind and I know it's done. 2 more bills to pay tomorrow but that's DH's payday, and another 2 on Monday. It never ends!!0 -
morning all :-)
Yesterday was a good NSD, and despite someone leaving a big bar of chocolate in the work kitchen with 'help yourself on it' I resisted it and stuck to my diet. This morning's scales reported another small loss (I know you're not supposed to weigh yourseff frequently but I can kid myself into believing all kinds of things if I don't keep on top of it) and as a result has just brought my BMI down into the next category. I feel totally over the moon and really motivated to keep going. I see losing weight as like paying the mortgage off, keep chipping away at it and little bits make a big difference long-term. I have a big target to lose, and for years it had just seemed impossible, but I've focused on losing a kilo at a time, rather than the huge great big total that's still outstanding.
We had a great evening last night. We'd both forgotten to defrost the chicken for dinner so whilst we waited for it defrost we were both our little gym. Its a while since I've been in there and sheesh it was hard work! DH was doing some weights tho and that gave me something nice to watch ;-) Afterwards we had grilled chicken, salad including chillies and tomatoes from the garden, and roast kumara (roasted in its skin without any oil), and later on a nice cup of tea.
So, DH's payday today, and the shopping list is loooooooong, so I'm expecting a big bill. It's all basic ingredients for things tho so not extravagant just running out of things.
Porridge again for breakkie, got a very sad looking banana for s snack - hate it when they're mushy but I can wash it down with a gulp of tea, and I've made us both wraps for lunch today. We were SURE we had some sausages in the freezer that I was going to slice up for the wraps but it appears we (or maybe DH) must have eaten them and forgotten. So it's lettuce, cheese, spring onion and homemade hummus, with chilli sauce for me and a bit of lite mayo for DH. So looking forward to them!
have a great evening everyone :-)

Well done on making the most of the defrosting moments by using the gym - you'll lose your weight in no time with all the good work you're putting in, just like that whole mortgage thing, really!

Morning everyone,
Well the big shop was less painful than expected - $160 in total, phew! we are well stocked up now so next week should be much less.
Porridge again for breakkie, no coffees at all this week :-) and last night's dinner was cheese souffle omlette which fed 2 of us comfortably with 3 eggs and a bit of salad. Prawn cocktail tonight, yum!0 -
afternoon :-)
lots achieved today... feels good :-) got a huge portion of stock made from the week's chicken carcass and the shreds of chicken turned into at least 5 portions of potato topped chicken & bacon pie, using up some very sad looking veg and some frost bitten peas. also got a tagine cooked up and stashed in the freezer. potato & corn chowder is bubbling along now. i love my rubber chicken :-)0 -
and the weekend's over already...
Got 11 pots of green tomato chutney made up yesterday from the last of the toms, and some tomato sauce too that just needs straining tonight.
Another slightly tight week, but some careful planning and a bit of maths meant that we could still get some wine for the weekend and there'll be about $100 going into savings at the end of the week. No monday morning coffee for me, I've managed to break that habit, and we both have homemade soups for lunch.0 -
Sounds like you're cooking on gas, Hoglet!

Thanks Thistlewhistle!
More homemade soup for lunch, mexican bean and tomato today, very yummy :-) Wont be making yesterday's ribollita again, it might be ok fresh but did not freeze well.
We had one of the chicken and bacon potato topped pies (shreds of chicken picked off a carcass already used for meals and stock and 1 piece of bacon) at the weekend and it went down very well with DH. There's a chicken curry defrosting in the fridge for tonight - half the battle with batch cooking is remembering to use it up and not just keep filling the freezer!
Still Tilly Tidying up our account everyday - $73.24 extra in savings since I re-started doing this :-)0 -
A NSD day today -)
Last night's chicken curry was very yummy and well received by DH. I did homemade chapattis to go with it and they went down well too. Very cheap to make and easy so will remember to make them for curries in the future.
chicken, potato, corn and mushroom chowder for lunch, very tasty especially with a huge pile of white pepper in it.
enjoying my homemade soups for lunch much more than the bought ones. Still managing to tilly tidy up the account every day :-)0
