  • I have now managed 5 days at work without buying any cafe food. I'm feeling very pleased with myself as I have been sooooo tempted, but I have held firm. Makes me feel much better knowing that I do actually have some self control, and that week day spending is very definitely avoidable. I found it was easy to fall into the trap of justifying completely unnecessary spending, telling myself I was hungry or needed a treat... Shockingly I've found that I actually haven't starved to death at all, and I am still able to function without treating myself to the Baileys chococlate slice that's been calling my name all week.... ;-)
  • Morning everyone,

Last day of work for me for the week, taking tomorrow off yippee! Have very exciting house painting and deep cleaning planned, but it sure beats being in work... In other good news, my coffee from the cafe was free this morning with my loyalty card, and I resisted the absolutely ginormous triple chocolate muffins :-) Had to buy petrol this morning tho, but at least I remembered the voucher.

DH gets paid today so it's another food shop day - probably looking at $130 but it's in the budget. I have asked him to not buy me any soups for work this week as I'm going to go back to making my own, should save around $8-9 per week doing this.

Need to pay a big bill today and also remember phone bills go out tonight. I Tilly Tidied $1.48 into savings this morning but will move some money around later on when DH's pay is in.

The best news this morning is that after last night's mortgage payment we are now under $336K! Yippeeeeeeeeee! Off to update sig now...

Hope you all have had a great day :-)
  • Lurking mince from the freezer defrosting for dinner... I think it was a chilli in a former life - must mark my bags when sticking them in the freezer...

I've signed up with a local vineyard to help with this year's harvest. I can only offer my time at the weekend due to work commitments but a) it will stop me spending money at the weekend and b) they pay in food whilst you work and wine to take home. Their wine is fantastic but pretty expensive, well for NZ where the wine is cheap cheap cheap ;-), so will be great to get some for no spendies.
  • oooopsie, a little (big) sausage roll might have called to me a little too loudly today. Shame it's friend the chocolate caramel ginger slice came along for the ride too.... ;-)
  • Got home from work looking forward to my long weekend aaaaand the toilet in our ensuite has perished it's seal and leaked all over the bathroom. Just wonderful! But rather than getting in a plumber we are researching fixing it ourselves....
  • Painting has gone well today but I'm shattered!

DH had suggested we batch cook some curries after last nights freezer dinner success so I'll be gettig onto that soon

Fingers crossed for an MSE solution to the leaking toilet!

I love painting - the room always looks so fresh afterwards.
We changed the Lino in the kitchen at OHs house (total colour change) which necessitated a fresh coat of paint to match. Got some friends in for a paint party followed by slow cooker stew and a few drinks. Result: the room was painted in about 3 hours!!!

Leaking toilets......MSE solutions? £1 bucket from the pound shop??:rotfl:
    Mortgage at end 05/2007: £90200
    Mortgage at end 08/2018: £71646 paid £18354 (20.5%)

    Car Finance: £8225 : £6392 (22.2% paid off)
    CC Debt (0% until 06/2020): £5640 : £4400 (21.7% paid off)

Age of Money at 31/08/2018 = 23 days

YNAB is changing the way I live my life....and spend my money!!
  • Love your idea Thistlewhistle! We found the part in the shop for a reasonable price but will have to take it back tomorrow as it isn't quite right!

Painting looks good tho a you're right, so nice and fresh ;-)

So much for the MSE weekend - DH has got a speeding ticket!
  • Morning everyone :-)

I have many plans for frugality this weekend but think the only way I'll succeed is just not to go out! Bank balance was looking a bit grim this morning and I've had to move some money around - but not before Tilly Tidying $3.93 away.

Got 2 dinners worth of chicken curry cooked up yesterday all from store cupboard ingredients so at least they're tucked away nicely in the freezer now. Need to cook up some soups for work this week too - will at least make use of the very elderly parsnip that's been hanging around in the fridge longer than I'd like to think about.

I got 6 jars of tomato & chilli jelly made up last night - it's crazy hot and used all home grown produce, apart from the sugar...

Trying to summon the enthusiasm to start on the washing for the week....

Have a great weekend everybody :-)

  • evening all ;-)

hmmmm well did end up spending a bit in supermarket today, so not quite a good day as planed but lots achieved otherwise...

we had to chnage the part we got the toilet repair, but with my discount card it only ended up costing us $1.97 for a much more expensive part. $36 spent in supermarket tho, but all things we needed...

but i had a good ay stocking up on soups for the working week - 2 lots of spiced parsnip, 2 lots of mexican tomato & bean, 3 lots of chicken & corn chowder & a big pot of ribollita going now. also defrosted a big pot of something unknown to discover it was spicy pumpkin & bean soup. so thats a weeks worth of soups for both of us made entirely from stuff in the cupboards or garden :-)

Got to get started on a quiche for a picnic tomorrow but im trying put that off till the evening cools down. the humidity is right up at the moment :-S

Also got 3 loads of washing done, the toilet is fixed and planned some cheap meals for the week.

Hope you all have a great day :-)
