Does anyone think that the Data Protection Act might be relevant in all of this?
The company have to abide by those rules, such as only collecting data that is necessary and that is only used for the purpose that it should be, i.e. entering the competition. Data has to be processed fairly too, and it seems like we all agree that it's unfair that women have to provide a marital status.
I don't agree that it is necessary to collect that information for the purposes of entering a competition.
Sadly, companies will make it part of the terms and conditions of the promotion that your entry won't count unless you fill out the unnecessary info.
It's not good to hear them say that they are collecting this info for marketing purposes, because the purpose they should be collecting your data for, is to administer the competition!0 -
