We are holding a Mexican themed party for FIL in March and would like to make some decorations to liven up the place to match the food. I've ordered some artificial chillies to put in a glass vase, some cheap sombrero's (not sure what I'm going to do with them yet) and cheap maracas but now I've come to a wall. Needs to be cheap (of course!!) and preferably easy / quick to do. Thanks in advance!

  • Tesco had some Mexican themed stuff including a piñata in their party section a while back. Have fun!

    Thanks, will take a look.
  • Make your own pinata. Either make a base using a balloon and dip strips of newspaper in flour & water paste. When dry remove burst balloon fill and decorate. I made 5 Angry Birds for a kid's party. Cardboard boxes and/or ceral boxes are even quicker to put together. I have made a Pirate ship & Treasure chest from boxes painted with poster paints. A Frog (box covered in green tissue paper with card feet). Best one, so far, Mexican pony (cereal boxes etc taped together in basic shape, covered in fringes of tissue paper, using multi-colour £1pack & duoblesided tape) and filled the head & legs. You can make them as strong or weak as you like (for adults or kids) but just make sure the area where you attach the cord is strong. Have lost photos off computer of my work but you can find similar on YouTube.

Oh that would be a really easy and awesome party theme to do! As commutergranny saya, make your own pinatas, I'd do a Day of the Dead sugarskull one ;)

Then just tons of streamers, balloons and bunting in vibrant colours - check out this fiesta Google search for some inspiration :D Would be cool if you could get everyone to wear a poncho to the party, way easy fancy dress that everybody can do ;)
