Item not received in post, buyer suspicious

Item not received in post, buyer suspicious. Have you ever seen a buyer with quite a lot of "Feedback Left for others" Item not received - refunded?

As a seller, I know that items go missing. probably about 1 in a thousand, so when you see a customer with 1 or 2 "item went missing" on each page of their "feedback left for others" do you find this a bit suspicious.

Additionally to this, they gave me a long convoluted story about being in hospital and that that is why they haven't contacted me until now (5 weeks later), however I can see them leaving people more feedback during the time they supposedly stayed in hospital?

What does the Jury here think?

  • Its difficult to say but if you do decide to refund get them to open INR as if they are trying it on at least it will flag up with ebay.

In October I sold a brand new item of childrens clothing and posted it the day after payment leaving feedback at the same time. Just over a week later the buyer contacted me to say they had not received it so I asked them to check with the sorting office etc. A day later they were back in contact to say it still hadnt arrived so I refunded in full. The item never came back to me and I kept checking the buyers feedback lo and behold a few other items didnt arrive either! My mistake was not getting them to open INR or trying to amend the feedback that I left when the seller paid.

It may be a coincidence but the buyer does not seem to be buying as much now - only one or two items every couple of weeks yet when they bought my item they were shopping like mad nearly 30 items a week.

I would probably be suspicious. I agree things rarely just "disappear" I wonder if it is worth throwing it back to them and saying, I notice you have a lot of trouble with items not being received according to your feedback, and perhaps its something they should look into.

Possible genuine causes are, postal address inaccurate on their account, living in block of flats/shared accommodation and someone else intercepting their post, not receiving "sorry you were out" cards, failing to collect items from sorting office which don't have a return label.

I have found "lost" items are a cost of doing business on Ebay. I sell on Amazon and I have sold 100+ items and all of them seem to have managed to get there.

I have found some people will refuse or drag their feet about opening a not arrived case before refunding. Maybe they are worried they have had too many cases opened. Once person sent me a message every day for two weeks saying their £3 item had not arrived and every day I replied with a polite message advising them to open a item not arrived case and I would refund them in full straight away.

Whatever happens I block people whose items get lost in the post.

I threw it back to a buyer about contacting Royal Mail about the poor service - and she replied that my item was the first that had failed to arrive.

So why have you left 20 negs for item not received then????

Never heard from her again and i think pointing out the 'trail' she was leaving - stopped her negging me.

Since Christmas I've had a number of people message to say their item hasn't arrived, it was needed last week, they've allowed over the delivery time so can I have a refund please.

I say fine, I will check with Royal Mail so they can investigate this. Please open an eBay case for INR so that I can refund you.

I haven't heard back from one of them.

I get very few INRs but always now ask the buyer to open a case on the basis 'it is easier for me to refund that way '.

  • I did a little tally, and in their 7 pages of feedback left for others, they have 6 x replacement item dispatched, 13 x not received or not as described, instantly refunded, and 12 x "there was a problem which was resolved immediately". I am going to call eBay as obviously they will be able to see all the other activity and messaging that I cannot see.

Last year when i brought around 8 items 2 went missing and i got a refund and a month later they turned up so i returned them to the seller ect.

But thats the only time its ever happend to me so i find it a bit suspect if it happens all the time.

I wonder if that person is also a member on here thinking back to a post last week!

I would make them open the INR and refund. Then block (cos I'm mean like that!)
