HOW MUCH data?

My mobile is on orange on an old Virgin EQ plan. Most of the time this suits me just fine.

A couple of weeks ago, my hubby had a flat battery, so he put his sim card in my phone to connect to the internet. When he finished he swapped put my sim back in, but it seems he didn't turn the data off. I noticed it the next morning, around 20 hours later and turned it off. It was not used in that time, just connected.

My bill has just arrived, stating I used 22.87mg of data, and charging me £58.38 + vat for just for the data.

This seems really high - I've found what I think is the latest service plan info but even the most expensive data doesn't cost anywhere near this much!

Can anyone help me to understand if the amount of data used, and the amount charged is reasonable? I don't usually use data at all!

  • Firstly 20mb is a typical days usage for surfing and emails
The problems to be that your tariff doesn't allow for it
Most providers will send texts as you approach limit
All you can do is complain
The fair charge would be less than £5.
You can roam in Europe for less than £1 for 20mb
So at the least the charges are excessive and don't fit the crime. The charges are set high to folk to sign up to data bundles
  • Thanks - excellent news. Called orange and they have amended the data charge to £2 - based on their other plans being capped at £1/day. They've disabled data on my sim too so I won't have problems in the future.
