O2 are refusing to refund a direct debit

Options
When Sky were in the process of taking over O2 broadband, O2 offered me 12 months free broadband if I stayed with them. In November (month 8) they texted that they would charge me £14.50 by direct debit. I phoned them and they cancelled the charge. In December they did the same again but I phoned them too late to stop the DD so my account is now £14.50 in credit. O2 are refusing to refund this amount and are holding it as a credit on my account.
How can I get this amount refunded? Does the DD Guarantee apply? Or should I not waste any more time on a small amount?
Any advice appreciated.
Fred

I've had similar nonsense in the past with a mobile phone company who credited an account I was never going to use again. They ended up sending me a cheque for it. That was just a few quid and probably wasn't worth the effort but I persisted because of the principle of the thing. From memory all I did was phone and talk to somebody and insist on repayment.

The DD guarantee is with the bank, call them and dispute the charge, they should revert it and ask o2 if they wish to dispute it. Hopefully they get something right for once and don't.
