OS Daily Thread Tuesday 11th February

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Good morning everyone :)

Another hi and fly visit but had to say thank you to Judi for sharing that beautiful video. I have said it before but your daughter and her partner are truly amazing women, they really deserve some recognition for the work that they do.

Judi, LW and Molly - I am another one with a really weird family, I could write a book or 2 or a trilogy!

Need to get going but will try and pop back later to catch up.

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well, warm and safe and have a super day :)

Poached egg on toast for breakfast and left over macaroni cheese for lunch , there is a microwave at work so it's an easy option ;)

  • Morning All.
My its cold out there today, the wind is really causing a chill factor.

JUDI.. i could not see the video as it said it was password protected (might be the school server so will try again from home later). My family is totally fubar at times so dont worry .

POLLYANNA... lol im not being a meanie it is just about time she had a feel of what being a mum is all about . Until now she has been the perfect baby (and i mean perfect..sleeping eating and never crying) it had lead her into a false sense of security and rather now she finds out just how hard it is than later (might put her off having another for a while as she is just 19 herself)

Dinner tonight is jacket spuds with whatever topping i can knock up. Got to make 24 rolls today for the week and a bit of ironing to do (all in my break so im gonna be busy)

Must make time this week to clip the little dogs hair before my family descend next week (Dad will moan if he has long hair)

Anyhoo better look like im working today. Hugs to all that need them or just want them x
    Bright Blessings xx

    Morning everyone

Now getting light here, very cloudy, and dull, now drying up underfoot after the rain yesterday afternoon, in the distance the sky is a very interesting shade of orange and pink – it’s beautiful – but generally means we’re going to get bad weather at some point in the day.

DH up and gone to work early but not stupid early.

Dinner last night was LO new potatoes, sauted off in pan - transferred to a baking dish then sprinkled with grated cheese and added some mushrooms too, served it with baked stuffed flat mushrooms, and smoked sausages, there was a choice of salads/coleslaw to accompany if anyone wanted some, LO desserts for those that had room. I’m really pleased that I used up what we had, instead of throwing it away and using something else/buying something else. Tonight will be either fish, chips and beans or gammon, new potatoes, onion sauce, egg and peas – may be the latter as we may need to have fish and chips tomorrow night as DS2 and I have a meeting to go to regarding his trip to Barcelona.

Work was reasonably quiet yesterday but this is the time of year where it should be slower – as it gives us chance to catch our breath before the madness of April – which is truly horrendous – every year without fail – as it’s the start of the financial year and new council tax year. We’ll see what today brings.

On Friday morning checked the bank, and I’d noticed a £12 charge being debited each month and couldn’t recall what it was – so when I visited the bank on Friday – I asked to speak to 1 of the Advisors and she got us a private room and got my account up on the screen and I showed her which one, and she found contact details and rang the company concerned. Apparently when I’d had to renew my photocard for my driving licence (I had a paper form come to remind me and did part of it online but then had to send stuff away) – there was an option to apply for a subscription that costs £12 a month – so they’ve been debiting £12 a month from my bank and I’ve not actually received anything for this “subscription” – if I’d started receiving a magazine etc then I’d understand but I’ve had nothing – it beggars belief – this is a Government department – the girl in the bank was horrified they could do that and when I spoke to them and said I really wasn’t happy and all I wanted was to renew the photocard as was required by law – he apologised and said he would credit the money straight back into my bank – this morning all the money has been returned – its £48. But what a b****y cheek to take it in the first place! Hope this stops anyone else falling into the same trap – I don’t even recall what part of the form any of this would relate to.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

Well, I'm back from my DB and SILs, had a really good weekend. Only downside was attending the funeral of my uncle, he died last week and we found out the funeral was yesterday so I attended with my DB. Saw lots of relatives I haven't seen for years but I don't think I will stay in touch, if I haven't seen them for so long I don't think we will be 'friends' and it's friends that I have in my life (that sounds harsh but some of my relatives are friends). Couldn't even speak to one cousin as she got into debt and left for Canada leaving her 7 children, then lied about her ex-husband, didn't visit her mum and dad and then threw herself across the coffin howling at the funeral.

Anyway, we all went to London for the day which was brilliant, walked for miles and the atmosphere was really good. The flight didn't get in till 10 so by the time we got home it was 10.30 and I was shattered. Still, I have a day off today, DD is at work so I will catch up with the washing.

Raining today, need to do shopping and cook a meal with veggies (not high on the agenda at the DBs!).

Hugs to all, will catch up with the thread, hope all's well and no-one struggling with the floods. Take care. XX

    Morning all!
Haven't been around much, been reading but not posting, life has been getting in my way!
Work has been hectic, but am on holiday for 2 weeks now, so will recharge my batteries a bit. It's DD's 24th birthday on Friday, where do the years go at all???????
I have made a new friend, of the gentlemanly type. Wasn't looking, never thought it would happen, and who knows what is on the horizon for me, or us, but just for now he is making me smile, treating me like a lady, and I am happy again, it all feels a bit strange, but I am being positive and have reminded myself that I am not trying to "move on" as such, but am learning to live my life again, people keep telling me I am a different person so must be doing something right!

Right, am off to get organised for the day!
    Hugs to all x

    Morning all,

Sorry been missing again. We have all been ill with the lurgy, resulting in me, ds3, dd and DGS all at home ill yesterday :(
Luckily everyone is better this morning other than ds3 who I've left in bed, he has an awful cold.
Jools, I'm really pleased you've met someone who makes you smile, you deserve it:D
Judi I've not caught up with the thread yet but I'm another one with a very large and in many cases very odd family.
Off to read yesterday's thread. I'm going to make fish and potatoes for tea, may have to put a bag over my head today as I'm sporting the biggest cold sore you have ever seen:eek:
    Have a good day x

snoozer just caught up with yesterday's thread.
I have a brother who is very similar, never visits mum and dad, never rings or invites them over but moans he never sees them.
He called on Sunday and began his usual moan about how they only call in for ten minutes on their way back from my house. I told him in no uncertain terms that dad doesn't like to drive in the dark, and if he ever bothered to invite them over for say Sunday lunch he could spend quality time with them.
Also the road runs both ways so why not go over and visit occasionally.
Needless to say he wasn't happy and left soon after. I'm over listening to him moan, he's a grown man with a huge chip on his shoulder and I'm sick to death of him. We have nothing in common at all, how is it he grew up along with me and my other two brothers and turned out completely different. His wife is very similar, her parents can do no wrong but she couldn't care less about ours:eek::mad::mad:
Ok rant over families, who'd have em!

  • Morning all,

Back from doing the Early morning club, sunrise was beautiful as nmlc said. Horrendous rain now though. I've put the towels in the machine and sprayed the oven with cleaning stuff, so now I HAVE to clean it!

Work at lunchtime and they have asked me to work in a class this afternoon which I have never done before. I am really looking forward to it. Just hope it isn't too hard, I'm told its science with year 1s. I should be able to manage that ;/

Mince which will probably morph into a chilli-ish mix with jacket spuds for tea.

    Have a good day.
