Family man buying "a good german family car", or a family man in mid life crisis, "buying a good german family car", with a sporty look. Or a family man, really into mid life crisis, "buying "a good german family car which was the first hot hatch you know", depending on which model. What it says if you buy the Skoda instead and don't even run to the VW brand.....0 -
Someone who thinks they are buying something reliable. Right upto the point where its recovered to the dealership yet again.
Maybe thats just my BIL? He is on his 5th Golf. I said what will you do if they stop making them. It turned into a dont mention the car.
Turns out in the 2 years he had it (ex demo with 1400 miles) Its been back 6 times. And had to be recovered 3 times.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

That's my point exactly. The market for the Octavia is the middle aged, middle class, balding, overweight, (but with the shiny bike in the garage), reader of the Sunday supplements that is convinced everyone else also thinks the Skoda is really a re-badged VW. And who washes it every Sunday, and cleans the alloys with a toothbrush they've saved specially for the job. - That's what a Skoda says about the owner!0 -
a) Does mark in a golf, just mean model?
Well either type or model, the shape changes every few years so the mark refers to which shape
So mk1 was 1975-1983 or so
Mk2 83-90
Mk4 1998-2004
etc
Each mark will have different models available eg S, TDI, GTI, Match etc
b) What 'mark' minimum would you recommend somebody in their late 30s to buy? (as a male, in their late 30s).
I can't recommend any specific one, but my favourite is the mk4 although your budget will cover the mk5.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0
