Would an unfurnished property generally come with a cooker?

We have viewed and rented several places unfurnished and all except a couple came with at least a cooker (didn't take those properties without one). It does put me off if the place doesn't have one - it is complicated to have to connect/disconnect a cooker, and you know that the next place you get will most likely have a built-in cooker, so you would have to then dispose of the free standing one. Altogether, a pain.
I think most tenants would expect one.0 -
The current flat I'm renting was fully unfurnished. We had to buy our own washing machine, fridge freezer and cooker. Personally I preferred this because we're soon at closure with buying and its 3 less things to buy. Although it's 3 more things to move.0

Hmmm, but it is the norm now for a fitted kitchen to have a built-in cooker as standard, don't you find? Built in fridge/freezers, washing machines, sometimes, but not so common.0

Rented an unfurnished house a few years ago and got hob, oven, fridge freezer, washing machine and dishwasher. That seems to be the standard expected in this part of London in the middle priced part of the rental market.0

A cooker is something you absolutely must provide
when i was renting i found a few places without a cooker, i ruled them out straight away, i would expect a lot of people to do this.
Free-standing electric cookers are quite rare these days usually where electric people have a built in oven which is separate to the hob, and it is illegal for anyone not gas safe registered to remove or fit a gas cooker.
So for those reasons it is unlikely that any tenant will have cooker to bring with them, and unlikely for a tenant that does have to buy one to be able to take it to their next property so they will probably be very unwilling to choose a property where they need to buy one.0 -
My sons have rented a number of properties privately, from a housing association or from the local council and none came with white goods.0

I would provide a cooker with any property I rented out. When we rented our flat unfurnished, we had a built in cooker, and a freestanding dishwasher and washing machine. We took our old fridge freezer, asked the tennants if they wanted us to supply one, they did, so I bought one for them. You don't need to get an expensive one, if a couple of hundred quid is too expensive for a cooker then you shouldn't be renting your place, as a fund should be available to replace and repair things that go wrong in a rental.0

Hi,
We were initially planning on letting the house entirely unfurnished, and would also prefer to not have to fit a cooker either... however, we've just been told that you don't actually have to have them PAT tested each year and .......
As (unless it's an old baby belling..) a cooker is not "portable" then PAT doesn;t apply.
If you include a cooker it is likely more potential tenants may be interested: But yes, some wouldn't want one.. So do what I do, tell people I'm prepared to be flexible (once went with new tenants 210miles+ at a bank-holiday weekend to get complete furniture purchased for an unfurnished house for IKEA...)0 -
I wouldn't rent a place without a cooker. We've always rented unfurnished and (space dependent) we've generally had:
- Fridge freezer (sometimes double size)
- Cooker/hob
- Washing machine
- Tumble-drier
- Dishwasher
Once we had to provide our own washing machine and we only took the property because there were no other suitable ones available. It was a complete pain because we then had to dispose of it when we moved again.0 -
Last two places have had a built in cooker, but nothing else. The first of the two had a dishwasher on the mutually agreed grounds that it was the landlord's old one, we could use it or chuck it if we wanted to, but if it stopped working, it wasn't his problem.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?0
