Unauthorized online transactions on my Barclay's account

Hi,
Yesterday Evening I opened up my bank account to make a payment to an industrial designer I hired in December to work on a few Product designs that I will be manufacturing in UK. Now, I had already paied the first installment of his fees, and as agreed upon I was going to pay the last installment yesterday, and That is when I noticed that two unauthorized transactions have been made to this designer. Transactions that I have not made. One was made on December the 9th for 200 pounds and another one on was made on December the 10th for 2500 pounds.
Since I have made an authorized payment to the industrial designer I contacted him and asked him why two unauthorized transaction were made to his account. He refused to accept that the transaction was made to his account even though I emailed him a statement showing the transactions. He still refuses that the transaction was made to his account, even the statement clearly has his name next to the transaction. He sent me a back statement for the respected date and I could not see any evidence of him being credited for the transaction.
I am absolutely gutted that Barclay's did not even bother to contact me to confirm such large transaction. Usually they will call you up for a much smaller transaction.
A third unauthorized transaction for 4449 Pounds was made to another account. The Transaction does give a name of the recipient. However, I do not recognize the name and I have never deal with some one of that name before.
I notified Barclay's of this yesterday but I could not reach the fraud team as they had already closed.
This morning I spoke to them on the phone and then later just before 5 in the evening. However, Failed the security so I had to visit the branch with two IDs. By the time I got there Their Fraud department had already closed.
I have always had my debit card with me and have memorized my pin, There is no physical/hard copy of my pin so I don't understand how this is possible. I am not sure if it is a case of identity theft, If so How do I confirm this.
I read on daily mail I think and several other websites saying that Persona details of Barclay's customers were stolen and then sold on to city traders. Could I have been a victim of this.
Lastly, I hope I get my money back as I have been saving every pinny to start my own business. It will destroy me if I don't get my money back. I have been feeling really suicidal as it is. This might just prove to be too much to take.
Is there anything else I can do apart from the obvious, that is notifying Barclay's?
I have an appointment to see them tomorrow morning, so any help offered here would be much appreciated and possibly life saving.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Are you sure the unauthorised payments were debit card transactions? Could somebody have logged into your online banking and made the payments?
Names are not checked for payments, just sort codes and account numbers.
Have you checked what payees have been set up on your account? Do one or more of them match the payments on your statement?
You should change your login password immediately as a precaution. You can also set up various text alerts that tell you about movements on your account.
Other than this, all you can do is talk to the Barclays fraud team in the morning.0 -

Well, They were all Online transactions/Money transfers so it has to be someone who has somehow gained access to my bank account.

The person who has two transactions associated to his name is on my payee list. I had hired in December for Product designs. He denies being credited for the transaction. This could very well be true since I see no sort code or account number So I am not sure where the money has gone to.

Barclays have put a block on all my accounts. I access the account using the pin sentry which is used with my debit card to get a authorization code, so I am not sure how to change that. I will certainly bring this up with the bank tomorrow.

Thanks for that dude. Does anyone know what are the chances of me getting my money back?0 -

I should think that's down to what your bank decides, none one here could possibly say for sure that you will get your money back.Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -
Someone has access to your online bank account. The reason money has gone to someone you have paid before, is because setting up a new payee would require authentication using the token.
Look to your computer...that is most likely where the security leak originated.Debt Free! Long road, but we did it

Hi,
I have an Update.
So today After Many Phone Calls and huge Mobile Phone bill someone finally contacted me back. They asked me a couple of questions on whether I had given my pin number to anyone or if any one had contacted me to give them my pin number and if I had done so. After I confirmed that I had not given my Pin number to any one and that no one had contacted me with such a request, The guy told me the the online payments were made using my pin sentry code With My card which I had reported missing and Printed a new card for my self at one of the branches. The guy said he will make a decision tomorrow.
This is preposterous how can anyone access my bank account with a card that I reported missing months after the Unauthorized Payments were made using a pin sentry code.
I had not used the card in question since December the third I had only realized it was missing once I tried log on to my account to make a final payment to the industrial designer I mentioned in my first post.
I told the guy to tell me the location the payments were made form which he refused to do and, and said it does not matter where the payments are made from the fact is that they were made using My Card ''which I reported Missing a while after the transactions were made'' and Immediately before I Printed a new card at a Barclay's branch''.
This does not look good for me. My life has been a living hell since I reported the transaction. What Should I do? What can I do?0 -
Did Barclays give you an immediate refund upon you reporting the unauthorised transactions?
The Payment Service Regulations should mean that they should have give you the money back, pending investigation. I don't see why you wouldn't qualify for that, unless I'm missing something.
Submit a formal complaint to Barclays.0 -
That is what I will do. In the mean time I just sent an email to Anthony Jenkins to request information about the location and ip address from where the transaction was made form and the account details the money has ended up in.
I am really worried of loosing half my family's money. My Plans to start my own small business are ruined because of this. My hands have been shaking non stop.
Does any one know the news papers will print this to put a bit of pressure on the bank, you think that would be a good idea?0 -
You shouldn't worry, if its genuine fraud you will get the money back. You should have had it back already whilst they investigate.
The way Barclays have dealt with this seem wrong, you should have to do none of the leg work.. finding the account the money went to is not your responsibility if you did not do the transaction.
If the card was reported lost, and it was used then its not your fault. You were not negligent and you did everything you could to stop someone using the card and subsequently the bank allowed it.
Complain, explain your emotional distress and detail every expense this has caused you.0 -
But the fraud was committed before i reported the card lost ''I live with mom to minimize expenses while i work toward having my small business'' so I did not check my account as often, on top of that the usage of the pen sentry is driving me crazy. I only found out the money was taken once I was able to log on to online banking with the new card.
Good thing is so far I have managed to keep this hidden from the family. I don't want them going through the same horrible feeling.
whatever the outcome one thing is for sure I am done with Barclay and so wiil be my 70 plus extended family.0
