External folding bifold door

I have purchased and fitted a bifold folding patio door set. It is wood covered with a veneer. I have noticed the joints of the wooden door panels are going black. This black will not clean off and is spreading further into the veneer. The door is a finished door and needed no further decoration. I am assuming that because of all the rain we've had, water is seeping into the joints and soaking into the veneer. Does anyone know if in the summer months when it is dry, will the black disappear?

Hi Ianwzzz
Not a direct reply to your post, but a veneered door for external use is tempting fate. There was a time when good practice meant such doors were not manufactured nor fitted. Solid timber was used - be this hardwood or softwood. External ply skinned doors were an option but durability and exposure had to be considered.
I have experienced claims for doors failing and the manufacturers responses.
Hence, my suggestion is who is the manufaturer, what fitting and exposure recommendations came with the door, and what guarantee do you have?
To word my concerns in another way - are the doors fit for purpose, and should they be fitted where they can get wet? Or are they for internal, or sheltered use only?
Hope this helps.0 -
Hi Furts,
Thanks for your reply,
The door was sold by Screwfix and is manufactured by Jeldwen. The door has a 10 year warranty and does not state anywhere that it can't be used under any weather conditions. It says in the instructions that it is a finnished product and needs no further decoration. The door has only been installed 6 months.0 -
Jeldwen is an established, reputable manufacturer. I suggest you go back to Screwfix and complain.
It might be helpful to first run your concerns, discretely, past Jeldwen Technical Department. This may flag up some issues.0 -
I have spoken to Jeldwen and they are coming to have a look by the end of the week.0
