I will use it for reading books and browsing the interwebs.

If I buy the Hudl, I will put Android's Kitkat on it.

Do you think it's just preference? Thoughts?

Tesco will decide when (or even if) you get to install KitKat, the only way for you to override that decision will be to root it and install a custom ROM.

Out of those 3 the Nexus wins hands down IMHO, however any one of the 3 will do for what you want it for.
Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it

If you decide on a Hudl I would hold off buying until you can confirm that a rumoured patch - there's another Hudl thread that mentions it - has been applied that is supposed to fix the freezing screen problem that affected both the first one that I bought and the replacement that they gave me (which I eventually returned for a refund).

Have a Hudle since last year and never had the screen freeze, could be a makers batch problem.

The Tesco helpline admitted it was a widespread problem, and the rumour of a patch suggests that the manufacturer (which I believe is Archos) knows it too. It could be a batch problem but after getting two devices with the same issue, one in store and the other delivered from some central point, I wasn't inclined to give them a third opportunity.

The Nexus 7 is significantly more expensive than the Hudl but you get, IMO, a first class screen, a reliable product, something that gets first go at Android updates (such as Kit Kat which you mention above). I've had one for about 4 months and would recommend it. Amazon are cheaper than Playstore.

For similar money check the dell venue 8 or the Asus vivotab http://www.ebuyer.com/515119-asus-vivotab-smart-tablet-pc-me400c-1b087w

2013 Nexus if you can afford it, Hudl if you can't.

It's as simple as that - currently

Bought a Hudl recently, keyboard wonky. Hudl support said to return it to Tesco. INSTANT refund.
Next tablet will have a larger screen.

Yes it's a good price if you're happy to have what would appear to be the previous model - it's certainly not up to date on O/S as it's not running KitKat.
