Reeling from the Reality Check

Hi HB, my 2 oldest children got themselves into debt from the age of 18 as they would not listen to me. my eldest daughter is now 33 and my eldest son is now 32 and never been out of debt and always having some financial crisis. I simply could not afford to keep helping them out any more even if the amounts were relatively small.
Thankfully my 22 year old daughter and 14 year old son are brilliant with money and only spend money that they have. They follow my lead of searching for bargains on the high street, 99 p Shops, Poundland Shops and from eBay. My 22 year old daughter has saved thousands even though she only has a part time job in a local ASDA and lives independently in a house share. My 14 year old son, makes his £5 a week pocket money be enough for all of his needs and will save up to buy items that he wants.
I am so thankful that I am debt free as JSA, Child Tax Credit, Child Benefit, Housing and Council Tax benefits are not enough to live on, so I am paying the larger bills each month from my savings account. I have to pay £17 towards my rent and £3 towards my council tax each week from my benefit money.
I cancelled my 2 Funeral Plans after realising that I would likely pay in far more than they would pay out upon my demise. I am paying the amount into a separate savings account instead and at least the money will earn interest over the years.0 -
Well, I've had official confirmation at last that my pension request has been received and is being dealt with. I'm hopeful it should be sorted out by the end of next week. I will really need the back pay by then as skating on thin ice at the moment. Really hope they get the figures right!
Jobs etc have come to a standstill due to no money. So frustrating. Down to others incompetence. They have no idea how their ineffectual dealings impact on the lives of others. Either that or they don't care.Feb 2014 to now

Hope the pension gets sorted out quickly HB
!!
I have been spending hours trying to sort out Mrs. B's. So many c*ck-ups it is untrue and now she has paid tax on a payment she didn't ask for
Absolute idiots  !!
I think your approach with DD sounds very wise. It is hard for men too......we can be just as soft. One of my DD's had a panic attack at the realisation of the amount of interest being paid on her car loan. She was quite happy with the deal when she bought the car but since then a new model has been launched and suddenly it seems expensive with a long time to go  !!She wants her mother to pay for it out of her pension pot so the job is passed to me to work out if it is viable.................
Whilst I admire your resolve HB, I can guess which way this one will go!
Oh.....and.......onwards and upwards with your P&F M'Dear

Thanks, Brogden. I've been assured that tomorrow is DDay and all things will be sorted. I'm not holding my breath.
I did, though, succumb to helping out DD. I couldn't bear to see her struggle another day. So, I paid the bill and added the amount to what she owes me. And I WILL insist she pays it back. Because I need it!
I'm fed up of checking the bank account several times a day too. I hate it when you get worried there might not be enough money in there!Feb 2014 to now

Worry over for the time being. Back pay went in yesterday, so reprieved from stressing to the end of the month! I can now go food shopping! Yay! The dark cloud has been immediately lifted from my shoulders. Saving up for some p and fs now. It may take some time...Feb 2014 to now

Feeling a bit more on an even keel. I've decided to keep paying the debts at the reduced amounts for as long as possible, so I can save up for some lump sum payments in the future. I've got my outgoings as low as I can get them and have decided to enjoy the summer and put debt mountain to the back of my mind. I'm not going to update the diary until the Autumn reviews, so hope you all have a great summer. Thank you for all your support. HBFeb 2014 to now

Well done HB - all is in order and taking a break. Even better you've decided on your approach which is the same as mine as it happens
