    Hi all,

    ...
...Information on the Annual Canvas will be updated once the records are published by the relevant local authority and will be complete by 1st April 2014.

    @Experian Company Representative -

Thanks for your post. You say that the credit files for individuals (as I understand it) will be updated 'by 1st April 2014' if your record changed at the end of last year.

So just to clarify, you are saying that it could easily take more than a month for the credit file records to be updated for an individual (a month from now would be just before mid-March). What is the average time it takes for an individual, would you say, please?

I am a Londoner, if it helps to give my location.

Thanks - looking forward to your response.

...and once it does show on the CRA's, does it show you at that address from the date published, or the actual date you moved into the property?

I moved to Edinburgh and requested to be added to the Electoral roll, I sent them notification via post towards the end of September.

My CRA's entries where updated around December with the date I put on my letter:

    CRA information: 01/09/2013 to date

I moved into my previous address in May 2009, the electoral register shown me as living there from October 2009. So it might be from when the register is updated.

Things might be different now though, I'll find out in a few months :rotfl:

Hi Zeds, at the moment we are in the period of the annual canvas updates, so we have to wait until the annual register is published and then update our records from this.

When the annual canvas is not taking place there will be a "rolling register" which local authorities update and publish monthly. We update from these as quickly as we can, it can take 6-8 weeks from when you register to when your electoral roll appears on your report.

The electoral register only shows the date that you registered to vote and does not reflect dates of residency at all.

  • What a rubbish system, albeit not really anyones fault.

I was only looking at getting a credit card. So, what I would like to know is, if I send a notice of correction with my current address to the credit reference agencies with proof of address ie council tax bill will my report reflect this sooner?

'Hi Zeds, at the moment we are in the period of the annual canvas updates, so we have to wait until the annual register is published and then update our records from this.'

Thanks for your reply but I was asking something more specific: if the annual register is published on 17 Feb, or within a day or two of this, what is the average amount of time it takes before the information on this register is reflected on individuals' credit files, please?

You said it 'may take' up until 1 April for this to happen. Do I take it that the normal - ie average - amount of time is that it would take around a month after February 17th? The reason I ask is that I wish to apply for credit, so it makes a difference to me exactly when my credit file will be updated.

As mentioned, I am a Londoner so does that enable you to project an approximate amount of time? I am not going to 'hold you to it', I just want your opinion of the average amount of time i am going to have to wait.

    Many thanks !

  • I want to know the same thing - Moved into current house in April 2013 and immediately sent off forms to get on the electoral roll. Have recently rung the council for a letter of confirmation as wasn't showing up as being registered on noddle or experian, and was told I am due to be added next monday... that is TEN MONTHS after I applied!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember last time I moved a similar thing happened, took 3 months to get onto the register, and it just never got added to my cra reports at all (doesn't show to this day!), even though I sent a letter of confirmation from the council.

So do they just make it up as they go along?

I'm trying to get my credit clean to apply for a mortgage in two years. So tell me, just how long will it be THIS time before I show up on the electoral roll according to the cra's?

Thanks for your helpful contributions to the forum, much appreciated. In my case, I registered with London Borough of Lambeth in 2012 and I show up on Experian's report that I got 2 days ago as not registered. I now have a letter from Lambeth proving I was added to the electoral roll in 2012. Does it still take 6-8 weeks in that instance? Again very hard to follow the process of buying a home if there are so many errors and it's so hard to figure out when things will be amended. Thank you

I just logged on to the Experian site and saw that it now reflects me being on the electoral roll, so that was very quick (I reported it on 12th Feb). Thanks!!

(I'm a bit shocked though that none of my financial history showed up on the report I pulled on the 12th, but now that I'm coded as being on the electoral roll, it does. Strange that lenders wouldn't be reporting in directly, and they need the electoral roll coding to work first before they know how much overall debt I have?)
