Nasty phone calls

Can anyone offer any advise please.
A couple of months ago I started getting a lot of silent calls with witheld nos which just hang up, these are mostly late at night early hours of morning.
I then got a horrible message left on my phone.
I contacted phone provider and police and the message was traced. However the number was from a pay as you go phone and the person to whom the phone was registered said they no longer had the phone.
Police say they can not do any more, even though I am still getting the late night calls.
For various reasons I dont want to change my phone number.
As a single women living alone these calls are not nice.
What can I do apart from changing my number

I wouldn't hesitate to change your number, alternatively make sure your friends know your mobile and unplug your house phone for a few weeks.
Can you say why you don't want to change your number? The mind is like a parachute. It doesn’t work unless it’s open.:o

Who's your provider , bt have a nuisance call dept , as you have contacted the police they will help out
Other providers have similar schemes
It blocks the number concerned or withheld numbers

There are a few reasons why changing number is difficult, also as police would not tell me the name of person to whom payg phone was registered I have no idea if I know this person so my fear is that even if I do change number I may give my new number to them because I dont know its them, if that makes sense!0

Your phone line provider will offer an anonymous call rejections service see http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8482 though there's usually a charge. They may waive the charge if you tell them you're getting menacing calls and you've been to the police.
Be aware though that some company switchboards withhold the number so if eg you get calls from friends/relatives at work they may not get through.0 -
