When I got to 60 and a few months and knew that there was no point in my employer keeping my job open as I knew I would never return, I resigned. Quite simple really if you know that you won't go back, why not be honest with your employer and part on good terms?
Why on earth are you prolonging the situation? Is your employer keeping your job open after 2 years?? If so do you honestly think that is fair?
You're so damned contradictory. One minute abusing the people that need benefits to live, now abusing someone who is currently sick but wants to retain her position at work for when she is able to return. You really are a nasty piece of work when your only hobby is working in the art of upsetting as many people as possible. Flo must love you to bits.

    What an over reaction!

I've not abused anyone. Let me re-quote what the OP has said.

    (a) Not sure I will ever be able to return to work aged 60+ woman.

    (b) Hi, I asked for ill health retirement and have seen OH about 6 times. I think if you are disabled there may be problem with sacking. I will not receive a big handout, just in case people perceive that.
I really did want to work.

It is quite clear to me that the OP wants to be 'pensioned off' on the basis of ill health. I would agree that she also DID want to work. Then the piece that really clarifies it. She doesn't think that she will ever be able to return to work.

Now where in all of that has the OP said that she wants to retain her position at work for when she is able to return?

My view on the matter is exactly what I did when I was placed in that position nearly 6 years ago. I could have asked to leave my employment on the basis of ill health. But the bigger picture as I saw it was why would I want to put my employer through all of that when I was satisfied that I would never return to work. To do the decent thing is to resign on the basis that you can no longer do your job. Is that too difficult to understand.

No, but if you are in an Occupational Pension scheme, it's often financially beneficial if you are retired, by them, on ill health grounds. (Depends on the scheme, though).

If you belong to a union, they may assist.

I wouldn't resign until you have taken some professional advice, and the CAB may be able to tell you who could give advice.

My GP charges £20 for a private certificate, and assuming he can give it for a fairly long period of time, it might be worth getting.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)
