Parcel delivered to old address

Options
I placed an online order to be delivered to my sister-in-law last month which she never received. On checking the confirmation I then noticed that the delivery address was my previous address, I had entered my sister-in-laws address and then decided to add more items to the basket which I can only assume then reverted to my old address.
I accept that I have made a huge mistake in not checking the confirmation properly and the items have been delivered to the address stated on the order but not the person to whom they were sent.
Any advice on what I should do? There has been no attempt by the occupants to contact the company who sent them or myself. The delivery was dispatched in 3 separate orders so they had plenty of opportunity to tell courier the person no longer lived there.

I'd say that your only option is to try to recover the items from the new occupants of the address. I'd write to them explaining what happened and say that you will pay any delivery costs that would be incurred, or if it's near enough offer to go round and collect yourself. If that fails you could try starting a small claim, but I'm pretty sure you'll need to know the name of the person that you're claiming against.

Do you know which courier was used for the separate deliveries?

If Royal Mail you might have a chance of it being returned to the supplier (we get this a lot)

if 1. The occupants say this is not us (as I assume it had your name on), then it would be marked as refused and returned to the supplier, they should then contact you.

    2. If they were not in when delivery was attempted then a P739 (sorry you were out) card would be left - the new occupants would likely ignore this, - as it does not have their name on - so after 3-4 weeks (it varies from Delivery office to delivery office), it will be returned to supplier marked as NOT COLLECTED.

Have you contacted the supplier? - they can look to see if this is returned and either resend or refund once they receive it back .

(I'm not sure what happens with couriers, as we mainly use Royal mail)
