PPI/no credit agreement

Just a quick question. Like many, I've seen all the adverts and help about claiming back PPI. I took a bank loan in 2006, and honestly do not know if I paid for PPI or not. However, a subject access request I made to the bank a couple of years back revealed that they do not hold a copy of the loan agreement.

Should I still contact them anyway?

    No harm in asking them if you had it. You dont need the agreement.

    Thank you for replying. But of course, without an agreement, they could say I didn't, when I did. :-/

    The agreement is just a piece of paper. it is not the only record that may exist.

    Ah, ok. So I assume I can ask for some form of proof as to whether there was, or wasn't PPI included?

    They dont need to provide proof. Indeed, it may not be possible to provide proof.

    You ask them if you had it and they will say yes or no.

    Why would they have to provide "proof"?
    If they can see from their records that you did pay PPI then they will tell you, if they cannot see from their records (or records no longer exist) then they will tell you.
    No "proof" will be provided.

    Thank you. It's my cynical side that questioned the 'proof'. As I said in a previous post, without the agreement, what is stopping them telling me there was no PPI, when there was (to avoid a claim). But as I say, I'm just cynical ;-)

    If you dont believe their answer then spend £10 and do a data subject access request.

    If you don't trust them to provide an honest answer, you'll have to write a Subject Access Request (SAR) letter which costs £10. This will provide everything they have kept on file for you for at least the last six years and (often) more;

    Ah! I'll have to look through my files, I've a feeling I did a SAR, that's how I found out that hadn't kept the agreement.
