  • I think Honda should take the old car back, refund the money and give a new car free, every three years, for life in way of compensation, to what only can be described at best as a harrowing and traumatic experience. Shame on them

No problems, glad I could put you at ease.

Just a couple of other things:-

If when you eventually get your car back the light comes on again, DO NOT keep driving the vehicle, the best way is to drive it back to the selling dealer, speak to either the New car sales manager or the general manager and hand them the keys and tell them that you are rejecting the car and will be posting them a letter...they will try every trick in the book even tell you that you cannot reject it, tell them you can and walk away.(Always stay calm, do not raise your voice, if you go in swinging and shouting they will dig their heels in and take it all the way and finally buyback at the last given opportunity)

At this point just write a letter to the selling dealer, something along the lines of

I purchased a Honda Civic, Reg No for £#'s on (date of purchase) as you know in this time the vehicle has returned to you with a serious engine management fault reference (Honda Uk Case # ) it has returned on 3 different occasions for the total of # days, you have covered # miles and at this point you have been unable to carry out a satisfactory repair, with this in mind I am now rejecting the vehicle under the "Sales of Goods Act section 14". (I love that phrase) :o)
Under Section 14 and from my own judgement, whilst keeping in mind that you have been unable to cure the fault, I believe the car is not of satisfactory quality.

I now give you 14days to respond with a full refund to the finance company and return the deposit I paid, failing to accept my rights to reject I will have no opportunity but to start legal proceedings to recover my money through the county court

Stick to the dates too, dont let them drag their feet, day 14 write a letter of legal proceedings stating that it will incur further costs of your legal fee's.(again maximum of 14 days to respond)

I can almost put my house on that if the light comes on again and you write to them you will get the buyback

I will repeat this advice and it goes to anyone with a faulty new car under 6mths old:-(You can get a car rejected after 6mths but bloody hell you have to work hard to do it and under certain circumstances)

The last thing Franchised Dealers/Manufacturers want is to go through the courts or end up in the press, they say all press is good press, not when it comes to the motor trade, market share is key with cars, Do you think the marketing department, CEO of any manufacturer wants headlines like "Manufacturer couldnt find fault with new car"...or "Franchised Dealer selling faulty new cars", would you be banging down their doors to purchase, it would make you think twice..and twice is one too many.

But anyway good luck and when you speak to them tomorrow, add up the 14 days ie if the car has been with them 10 days give them 4 more days to resolve the issue or again you will be rejecting the car this is ample time for them to repair it.

Oh one last thing, Goodwill Gesture....The franchised dealer may try and sweet talk you with a Goodwill Gesture, for arguments sake lets say they offer an M&S voucher, if you accept it or decline it it will not paint over SOGA..some franchised dealers would like you to think it does...dont be fooled

This advice goes to people who are having serious issues on faulty new cars, do not try and reject your car because you cant afford to pay for it, nor you have seen the same car priced £2000 cheaper down the road...you will lose

Me accepting the courtesy car would not affect my rights. It is good to learn that.

I do not have problem in continuing with my payment. I have looked at that very well prior to commit myself to this purchase. I am really not after my money -I want a car that does not behave [error messages] as what's the present mine.

    Regards-Thank you again.
  • But watch out for one of their tricks.

On another forum I am on someone rejected a car, when he came home from work the next day the car was on his drive and the keys had been posted through his front door.

Have you a link to that story?
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?

What could do a customer if that happens? Who could one [customer] contact if it span out as what you've mentioned?

If this happened from a reputable Franchised Dealer, and the manufacturer were involved this would not look good for them, at all, without knowing each individual case then it is impossible to say, and from Noddy Donkey post, this could be a case of where the consumer has no rights to reject the car, if this is the case then expect the car to be delivered back to you.

If the consumer has done very little and not given the dealer a chance to repair the vehicle then the court will take a dim view on the consumer, if everything has be done and all other avenues have been exhausted then you enter the court room.
With your case if the car comes back with the fault then you have been fair and patient...you have given them ample time to repair the car or offer you a resolution, how can they argue against the car being fit for purpose and in a satisfactory state when

a: they cant find the fault
b: the length of time they have had the vehicle with no results

    they cant...now stop worrying

It is now 14 days car been with the dealer.
Received a call from the Honda dealer who informs me : It is a "Hardware" issue?
When asked which hardware is at fault: Told me "MAPSENSOR"
When I pointed out that was what changed for a new one in November 2013- Yes.. and said Honda is meeting with manufacturers of the MAPSENSOR tomorrow. Faulty MAP Sensors are produced by manufacturer, he said!! I am flabbergasted.

Reading between line, my dealer seem to suggest the fault is with the maker and supplier of a part used in a new car? The new car has had the MAP sensor changed twice and car is throwing a fault- Like AdrianC and others said it is a fault that need identification repair but the guys at the dealer now blaming the SENSOR producer.

Where does that leave me? Do Honda try to put the blame on a manufacturer of this part.? A new Car has many parts made by different manufacturers., Correct me if I am wrong. I do not need to take up the issue with manufacturer of a part if that goes wrong in a new car. Do I?

I have totally lost my faith in my new Honda. There is something very wrong with this car. If the production of this part is faulty many more cars fitted with the same batch of the sensors should be reporting problems, surely!!

Is there? At the moment, it looks like Honda are taking it VERY seriously, and doing a great job of keeping you informed on what they're doing to resolve the issue.

    Hi AdrianC,
    Thanks for a prompt reply.
    1. you and others opinion, the problem lies some where else, but now Honda Dealer claims: "the problem with the makers of sensors fitted in car." How long I should wait? As long as it takes.... That is not fair on me. [Initially they said it was a software issue]
2.Time is running fast and soon the car will be older than 6 months and as
    llllllllllllllllllllllllll has said
I will repeat this advice and it goes to anyone with a faulty new car under 6mths old:-(You can get a car rejected after 6mths but bloody hell you have to work hard to do it and under certain circumstances)
What will happen if the problem is still there!!
3.If the sensors produced with faults-then there should have been more cars produced at the same time fitted with same batch should be reporting problem -shoulden't
    Regards
