I think you started with the insults - or perhaps in your neck of the woods calling someone a numpty is not an insult.
Maybe it is. But I didn't actually direct it at anyone in particular like cool-dog did. Plus I don't think "numpty" is as offensive as "effin tw*t".PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -
I usually fill up from whichever side if there's a queue.
However, on one occasion I pulled up at "the wrong side" and the hose wouldn't reach across, felt like a right "numpty"! Must have been a problem with the pump/hose or something.
Another occasion I have witnessed someone trying to do the same and the tannoy operator telling them not to fill up using the hose from the wrong side, what's that all about?Make £2018 in 2018 Challenge - Total to date £2,1080 -
Fortunately my wrists/arms/legs are strong enough to be able to manoeuvre the hose adequately without touching my paintwork. To make things easier, I am able to position my car as such that the hose can reach easily with minimal effort. In addition, I think you will find that modern petrol pumps are actually designed to allow filling from the far side of the average car by having either having a retractable hose or one that comes out at a higher position.
Its amazing what small things can amuse some people.
Depends on the pump. They vary with garages. Tescos seem to have a lot of pumps that work for the far side of the car.
And yep, what cool dog said sounds about right.0 -

Not only Tesco in my experience. And yep, what cool dog said sounds about right.
Which bit? The personal insult was uncalled for.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -
Having spent 12 years in shop refurbishments, I can assure you I've seen it all.
I was once working on a closed-store refurbishment where a muppet had approached the site (surrounded by 10 foot fencing) and found the alternate entrance we were using. He got past the security guard, found the main doors to the store locked, been directed to the fire door we were using, signed in, found the shop floor and a basket.
He was intercepted by someone who asked him if he'd been able to find everything he needed, and if he noticed anything different about the shop (empty shelves, contractors everywhere, no customers, ceilings down, no checkouts).
My other favourite is a colleague had to forcibly restrain someone from "Just nipping in for some fags, it won't take a minute". He didn't seem to have quite computed the smoke coming out of the shop, or the fire engines, or the fire alarms, or the hose pipes running into the building, or the fire fighters in full BA.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

I love it when you see a line of cars waiting to get to a pump where their filler cap is on the same side despite pumps on the other side will be free.
I on the other hand, manage to pull up at a pump with my filler cap on the far side of the car. Many a time have I done this, filled up, paid and driven off while numpties have still been waiting BEFORE I have arrived! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

And the winner of the COMMON SENSE IS NOT COMMON AWARD

Surely not ?0 -
Sounds like she thought you don't need common sense if you're not common

I never fill on the wrong side.
Far too easy to drag a crappy dirty hose across the paintwork - I sit and wait and often have a laugh at the numpties who do that.
I'm never in that much of a hurry and don't want to have spend time polishing off the scuffs.
I suppose most 'numpties' either don't see or don't care about scuffs on the paintwork.
I laugh at them laughing at me waiting.
Just like I laugh at the spotty yoofs who beat me away from the traffic lights.
So long as I can fill up as quickly as possible I dont care which side or if I get any scuffs on the car. So long as I can get back on the road as fast as possible and beat people away from traffic lights. One man's folly is another man's wife. Helen Roland (1876 - 1950)0
