Amazon no longer competitive

Options
Wanted to buy these items

1) unmanaged switch
2) crimping tool
3) 10M cat5e cable
4) (optional) 20m cat5e cable.

Amazon limits super saver delivery to £10 now. So had some trouble getting enough for super saver delivery. Noticed fulfilled by amazon products are twice as expernsive sometimes as items fulfilled by third parties.

Spend about 2 hours search for products that were eligible and cheap enough. But didn't work out.

In the end I bought the unmanaged switched from play (10p more but free delivery).

Bought 30M cable from third party seller on amazon (amazon was selling the same product for 2x as much)

Crimping tool - bought from a third party seller at amazon.

It looks like the third party sellers are providing items at rock bottom prices.

Amazon itself has been quite a bit more expensive than other retailers like play, ebuyer etc.

Typical internet jjuggernaut move. Get a whole bunch of investor money to keep you operating at losses for years and years so you can undercut and drive all the other retailers out of the market. Then once you become huge, with little compeition and a user base that are latched onto your teats. Hike up prices, they'll be none the wiser.

  • All because they were not competitive for those four items, that does not mean they are not for other items. This week I have ordered cat food from them (paid £55, saving £20) and two sets of new underwear (£50, saving over £50). I never assume any one site will be cheapest, anyone would be foolish to do so.

    Depends what you are buying.

I used to buy a lot from play but now find most things I want cheaper on Amazon.

They do have small items you can buy to make up to the £10 free delivery.

Used them twice within the last couple of weeks and I have been amazed how good the delivery was.

They tried to deliver twice but we are flooded in, they rang to ask if there was somewhere else they could deliver instead but there was not so they delivered the next day when the road was passable.

Again today the road is flooded and they rang to explain why they could not deliver today and will try again.

Also bought loads from them at christmas, something arrived damaged, they gave me an instant refund and told me to keep the item.

I've pretty much given up on Amazon now unless its for DVDs.

I tend to use the eBay stores more now.

I don't want to trial Amazon Prime because I know I'll forget to cancel it and the amount of items available for free delivery has shot right down yet theres so much from eBay stores that are free p&p!

£10 min spend for free delivery applies to books now as well.

When I need inexpensive books now I look on other used book sites, eBay or at the Amazon marketplace sellers.

If I want a £3 book i'm not going to spend £7+ more to get free delivery!

I would agree that for small items Amazon are now not the best deal.

obviously i can only go by personal experience. I just cited todays purchase in OP. But just noticed in recent times Amazon is more expensive than other sites (if you use Google properly and search deep enough).

Ebuyer sold this for £96 with free delivery, I bought it: http://www.ebuyer.com/433141-dell-c1760nw-colour-printer-210-41094

When searching, this was also fulfilled by Amazon for £120.

You can cancel it from the moment you take it out. Do your order and cancel it right away...or is that a problem?

Amazon used to have a practice where as a Marketplace seller you had to sell at a higher or equal price to Amazon. There was a recent ruling which forced Amazon to allow Marketplace sellers to sell at whatever price they wished even if this was below Amazons own price.

You can now set it so that it automatically cancels at the end of the trial period.

Amazon closes free delivery loophole – but you can still beat the charges
