I want to cancel or reduce the cost of my Orange contract

I have been with Orange for years. I have recently ( over 2 months ago)cancelled my account...reason I hardly ever now use the phone , having different circumstances. I was considering going on pay as you go and mentioned this on the phone. I was not held in any contract as that had expired. Whilst they sent me a new sim card for pay as you go just in case what they negleted to tell me was, until I register it I will still get my monthly charges!!! (£35 a month) thing is I hadn't even used the phone at all!!! I was furious and rang them and now they have credited the 2 bills back into my bank account. So be warned
1. If you go from contract to pay as you go, either register the new sim immediately. Or don't mention at all you are considering goinh with pay as you go with them, unless you know for sure thats what you want to do.
2. Ending your contract can be expensive, and all depends how much time you have left.
3. Remember if you down size your contract, that will then enter you into yet another new contract.
4. Maybe the best advice is stick with this until the time expires, unless you change to a smaller one and accept a new contract. If you can make free calls, use this instead of your land line.
5. Just before your contract ends, and if you have phone insurance, if you have ANY problems with your handset claim for another phone ( this happened to me, it wouldn't always charge fully), which should beable to be unlocked so you just have to get a new sim and off you go.

I've just rang up to cancel my Orange contract, and was offered £10 p.m. + new handset for a 12 month contract. 200 x net mins p.m. + 100 texts.
Seems ok, but I'm still tempted by a new cashback contract, as I used that last year to have a year completely free.Debbie0
