Anyone been fined yet for taking kids out of school?

We are going away at the beginning of May due to my mother's 50th birthday, I am taking her away on a surprise birthday trip. I have requested permission to take my son but this has been denied. I have never before taken him out during school time but this year I have to. Has anyone been fined for doing this? I have no problem paying the fine, I just wanted to know if this comes diretly from the school or the local authority? do they write to you and then you can pay? Just looking to see what the actual procedure is.

Thanks

How long are you taking him away for? It has to be over 10 sessions (5 days school days) before they can implement the fines.

As far as I know the fine is £60 per child per parent and is dealt with by the local authority. (no personal experience but google for examples)

There are very strict limits for payment with the fine increasing very quickly so do make sure you pay immediately.

The details should be on your local authority website.
  • I just got fined.

You have 21 days to pay.

The Education act, unlike the Children's act define parent as someone who has daily caring responsibilities for the child even if they don't have PR. So the live away parent does not get fined but the step parent does :/

Thank you guys, I am taking him away from the 1st May to the 8th so a total of 5 school days. Will that be £120?
  • Have people not woken up to the fact that the state is now taking control of the children? The same thing happened in Nazi Germany. By what authority can these people fine you for taking your own child out of school? There's a difference between common law and statutes. Most schools today have a perverted sex education and are messing around with children's minds. Now they are fining parents for taking their children out of school for a few days. When will people snap out of their trance and wake up?

the first fine for a step-parent will be an interesting one. I fail to see how they can fine someone who has no right to stop the parent doing something. I know someone who takes her children away with her mother for a week in term time every year. Her husband (the children's step-father) is working and doesn't go with them - how on earth could they justify fining him?

Perverted sexual education? What kind of schools are you talking about? Most schools I've worked in have a lack of decent sexual education, but certainly no perverted education.
