Mobile Phone Credit Voucher

Hello everyone
I am a t mobile customer i have 2 contracts with them.
Recently I purchased a t mobile sim card & a credit voucher from a local post office for an ex t-mobile contract phone i had kept.
T Mobile informed me as long as i put a t-mobile sim card into the ex contract phone it would work just fine.
When i tried to transfer the credit from the voucher to the phone i got a message saying I did not have enough credit to make the call.
Ehh i tried several times still no joy , was to late in the evening to call T Mobile
Wasn't the end of the world i still had 2 other mobile lines .
Few days later i had a spare hour so decided to have another go with the voucher. This time i realized the voucher i had was for O2 network and not T Mobile .
I bought the new sim card & voucher within seconds of each other from the same post office , even handed the guy at the counter the T Mobile sim card thinking he would need to scan it.
Obviously the guy behind the counter had got his wire's crossed an accidentally sold me credit for the wrong network.
Wasn't the end of the world would call into the post office next time i was passing.
When i returned to the post office i couldn't believe what happened , nearly ended up getting myself in trouble i was gobsmacked ).
He said , without checking the voucher , I had used the credit and was now trying to obtain a refund fraudulently..omg there was people in the shop apart from occasional visits to this post office this Asian guy doesn't even know me , i saw red and more red, luckily i didn't go through the glass.
Cut a long story short , I've given him 3 opportunities to refund me a new voucher or a cash refund.
He refused this time saying because i didn't realize his employees mistake and rectify it within 10 minutes of purchase , its hard luck and the money is gone.
My question is guys an if anyone can help that would be great as i have already spent more than the vouchers worth on various calls trying to sort this out.
County court guidelines state i must give the defendant reasonable opportunity to settle any dispute.
Does going into the post office 3 times plus one phone call suffice as reasonable opportunity considering the simplicity of this matter ?.

  • You won't get a refund for a mobile credit voucher. The shop owner cannot refund the code through O2 so would be chancing his luck to try and sell it on with no guarantee it's not been used (I'm not saying you have used it but there's no way for them to check if used or not). Your best chance would be to find a friend/relative who has an O2 phone and sell it to them to get your money back

I dont see any reason why they wouldn't be able to refund the voucher.

when i worked in Tescos, we used to do it all the time.
we just had to ring up the network and get them to cancel the voucher (and they confirm if its been used or not).

it does take abit of time to sort out thou

This is entirely correct. Within 10 minutes the transaction can be reversed, the code cancelled and your money refunded, but after this point the retailer can't do that.

Though I accept the cashier should have given you what you asked for, equally it wouldn't have taken you 5 seconds to glance down upon receiving the voucher and check it stated the correct network. I would consider it a lesson learned, shop elsewhere and check my voucher straight away next time I bought one.

Thankyou this is exactly how the O2 agent described the procedure to rectify the mistake . What the post office and the other comments failed to realize , i was sold the wrong thing and entitled to a full refund by law.

I have resolved the problem with the post office customer service team actually the lady from the PO was quite taken aback when i told her the post master had suggested i was tryin to dupe him.
A written complaint is to be made.
As regards my original question , a letter of intent would still probably have been required before issuing any court proceedings.
